I am trying to connect my 3ds to the internet to play pokemon ultra moon online. I scanned and found the router, entered the right password and it says "testing connection" for about 5 minutes and then fails. I am really wanting to trade pokemon so I am asking anyone knowledgeable for help. I know nothing about wifi or 3ds consoles or connection issues. Like literally nothing. If anybody could give me suggestions/troubleshooting in simple steps and terms I would be extremely grateful. And if anyone else is also wanting to play pokemon we can do that too. After I get this fixed...

In order to connect, i think you've got to go on Nintendo.com to create your account/profile. It's brief, just basic info like name, country, username, not much else. Then, on your 3ds, link your 3ds to that account. But i might have the order wrong.

The 3ds manual and Nintendo's website support section have outlined steps for setting up. Which will be a better resource than here in NintendoLife forums where you could get inaccurate advice that could lead to headaches.

I don't blame you for wanting advice but Nintendo is the best resource. If you're intimidated and want to ask someone where to start, Nintendo's customer service is VERY good here in the US. They're in Seattle. I've used them 4 times myself. And its fairly easy to get a nice REAL person on the phone. (no outsourced baloney or long ridiculous automated menu trees to navigate. There is a menu tree, but it's short).

They'll log your info first call. Which, makes it real easy to get help if you call back. If you called them back and don't get the same person, they look up your file and see the notes regarding what you got help with before. I did get the same person for 2 or 3 calls, which was great.

@Woomy_NNYes Thank you for replying. I should have also mentioned I have connected this system to the internet before about 2 years ago. But I only had one game and stopped playing 3ds since then until now, and it no longer works. So it was working without ever hearing of nintendo.com. What does this mean? I'm gonna look at the website but I don't really know what I'm doing, particularly with the "link your 3ds to that account".

Ugg. I typed a response, hit enter, and the session timed out and I lost it.

Sounds like we're missing something, possibly something that sounds dumb Because, sometimes thats what it is. If your router got updated over the past two years, that will have a different password. If you live alone, I'm guessing you know if you changed your own router.

And check that your yellow wifi light is on, on your 3ds.

Otherwise, your quickest way to solve the problem is to call the Nintendo support number. Their job is to be nice and get your 3ds working. They know the checklist of things to go over. And you need the back & forth feedback talking to someone to get you to a solution. I know calling a support line may not sound attractive, but Nintendo isn't most companies. They are the nicest company I've talked with. They're good. I swear
