I know that 3DS's are region locked but is it possible to buy a EUR 3DS and just buy digital games instead of importing EUR cartridges? I want to get my boyfriend the Fire Emblem 3DS XL since we only have the standard here but I want to make sure I'm still able to use the eShop. If anyone could verify, that would be great! Thanks in advance.

You can but you will only be able to access games available in the eur shop and will have to pay in european currency, pound sterling or euro and pay european e-shop prices, so not the best deal....

Well that's a let down. Can you at least play regular DS games on it? Is there any news of any other limited edition bundles coming over? I got the Animal Crossing one but not sure if anything else was recently announced or not.

I have a US 3DS and I'm in the UK. I wanted it because it's purple. I can use the US eshop and can put credit on it using the prepaid cards from Nintendo that are offered on various websites. They do cost more than the normal prepaid card would because the retailer adds on a bit. So it is a bit more expensive. I get my sister to send me games because she lives in the States. So it could be done, but would be a bit of a pain. DS games work fine though, no region problems there.

That's good to know that regular DS games work fine. I guess I'll just see how much everything is first... thank you all for your help!
