So I'm looking for a new RPG game to play. I've played the demo for both and I've enjoyed both extensively. But I'm stuck on which one to get for now. So which one do you guys think is better?

I personally prefer Awakening, but that's just me. Have you ever played a Fire Emblem game in the past? Maintaining as much of an objective standpoint as possible, I'll just run through both games for you. Fire Emblem is more of a tactical turn-based RPG, and playing it is like an intricately crafted chess-board, which is up to you to make your pieces and strategies. Bravely Default is a traditional RPG similar to PS1 Final Fantasy era. Overall, Awakening is more streamlined, able to offer a great experience for both newcomers to the series/genre, and seasoned veterans, whilst Bravely Default is definitely more niche. You'll probably spend more time in a single play-through in Bravely Default, but Awakening has A LOT of replay value (I think I've beaten the game like 8 times, each of which were 30+hour play-throughs), enticing enough to where you'll keep coming back. I would say Awakening (as I think that that's hand's down the best game on 3DS), but since you've enjoyed both extensively, you really could go either way and not look back.

I have played both of them and enjoyed both! They are very different games, so it is pretty hard to pick a better game. If I had to choose I would pick Awakening, because it is a more personal experience compared to Default. I also enjoyed the story more of Awakening. When looking at play time to finish the campaign, I played Fire Emblem for 50 hours and BD for 70. They both have great soundtracks and graphics. There is one part of BD that I didn't like as much that dragged the game down from being perfect, but I won't talk about it because of spoilers. I could go more in depth if you would like to

I only played Awakening, but I echo @Chubblings thoughts. If you want a traditional RPG, go with Bravely Default. Want something a little different? Go with FE:A

The best option would probably be to get both at some point though, from what I've heard Bravely sounds good although I've never played it myself.

Working on the profile pic. Trying to find a good one for me.

Fire Emblem, easily. I played through the entirety of Bravely Default, and the "traditional" aspect of it is just tedious grinding and terrible characters. The only fun you might get out of Bravely Default is by looking at flashy special attacks and summons, but that's about it.

That's exactly how I describe it to people who are unfamiliar with the genre: "Imagine if chess was actually fun."

Definitely go with Fire Emblem. It's the better game in nearly every way. Bravely Default is a very average game with a few aspects (art style and battle system) done very well. Whereas Fire Emblem is good across the board.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Fire Emblem Awakening is arguably the greatest SJRPG ever made. Bravely Default is just a JRPG with a good battle system.

Go with Fire Emblem. It's the best game on the system, in my opinion.

Best thread ever

Shin Megami Tensei IV. I actually think that's the best JRPG on the system. But I'd also recommend trying out the Etrian Odyssey IV and Untold demos, and see if you enjoy them. Both are fantastic RPG's.

I haven't played Bravely Default, but Fire Emblem: Awakening is one of my favorite games. Ever.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

To each his own I guess.

I also recommend FE:A, but Bravely Default is also a great game. I guess I'll talk a little more about BD though since it seems to be the underdog in this debate.

The game is extremely fun and does give the classic Final Fantasy feel. Grinding is not hard at all, and I don't remember doing it that often either, its not about levels per say and is more about your class and how high that class is and what abilities it has. BD does a great job at making you want to try different combinations of classes and using abilities. There is a lot of strategy in BD and you can't just strong arm your way through it, unless maybe you play on easy. The only thing that gets tedious is the later chapters, besides the last one, and there is an obvious reason for that. However, the game is extremely fun and is just a great joy to play. The characters do take a little time to warm up to, but you'll eventually start to like them a lot more as time goes on, especially Ringabel, who I hated at first but loved by the end. One of the best 3DS games out there...that should tell you how amazing Fire Emblem Awakening is though if I recommended that instead. Both are GoTY worthy in my opinion, but FE:A just did a little more for me.

The only thing that BD might trump FE:A is the amazing soundtrack, FE:A is amazing as well, but BD had some of the best music I've heard in this generation. Both are great, play both eventually, but FE:A is a game I could recommend to almost everybody without fear.

Awakening, one of the best games ever

Its not even a competition

Bravely Default its a great game, love the job system, the combinations, the turn based combat, but at some point it gets so damn repetitive... Ive yet to finish, i hope the sequel would fix the pace, because its an amazing game

But Awakening its on a whole other level
