Even if you ignore the fact that it's a Metroid spinoff when people were wanting a main series game, this still looks like a steaming pile of mediocrity. It basically strips Metroid gameplay down to generic co-op FPS gameplay, I can't say I'm terribly excited for it. Hopefully this doesn't count as either of the two Metroid games Miyamoto mentioned last year.

A spin-off still in progress, will be waiting to see how it turns out, wondering how the multiplayer will play like.

Blast Ball looks really fun for a short time. Federation Force just looks really boring.

I hope Next Level hasn't been working on this for 2 years.

The YouTube trailer already has 20K dislikes. I can see this getting canned after the HORRIBLE backlash.

Wow, so much hate towards an otherwise decent appearing game, just because it's a Metroid Spin-Off. People have yet to play the game, yet hate it because they want to see a true Metroid game right now. It just seems like a bunch of meaningless whining to me, especially since I see nothing wrong with the game.

Do they really expect this game to sell? Cause like what guy said this game has gotten horrible backlash and like the 4 or 5 people to buy this is not going to be enough.

Man, poor Nintendo just tried to make a fun spinoff and it gets shot down immediately. Petitions and hate are all stacked against it.

Just for an example of hate I found on the petition: "This looks lame where is samaus smooth moves has more Metroid than this poopoop". Seems really illogical and kind of funny.

I dont see what's wrong with it, it's just a harmless spinoff that at least resembles the source material unlike other ones (SMTxFE).

I think my biggest issue with Federation Force is that it appears to be an incredibly cynical attempt to take advantage of whatever power the name "Metroid" still commands in order to sell a game that, as far as I can tell, only seems related to it on the most superficial of levels.

I mean, if it had simply been called Federation Force or Blastball, without the Metroid Prime prefix, it could have had a fair shot to be judged purely on its own merits or lack thereof. But because Metroid still carries such weight among Nintendo's own audience and the gaming community in general, and because the last game in the series is both 5 years old and incredibly polarising (to say the least), having this game bear that name serves to cruelly, though inadvertently, twist the knife for long-time fans and invite unfair expectations on the game itself.

They hate it because they want a new Metriod game nothing wrong with a spinoff game. But there's something wrong if the spinoff game is for a franchise that we haven't seen in a long time! That's why people are like this right now if it was for Zelda or Mario. People wouldn't care, but if you do this to a franchise that people haven't seen for a while? That's a slap to the fans. And this game is going to sell like crap.

That honestly just seems like a lot of whining to me, and although I can see why major fans hate it, this seems like they are taking it to extremes. Although, like you said, I'm pretty sure this game is going to fail, straight of the bat.

Edit: I do enjoy seeing the petition, and it really shows just how much people adore Metroid, and anyways at this moment they need only 84 more votes to reach 1500 votes.

People just need to get over the fact the game is a spin-off (if that, we don't know) and stop whining about the new metroid game after whining for them to rush and make a new metroid..

Seriously, this is just blind hate on an otherwise decent game. Would you rather have them make metroid prime pinball? Cause they did that.. and it recieved absolutely no negative feedback even though it was CLEARLY just pinball with metroid slapped on the title... this game atleast has metroid characters, themes, and gameplay.

I'd hate to see the game be cancelled due to the sheer ammount of stupidity and blindness of the fanbase.. there is also a petition going around for them to cancel the game now.

I'm just happy we got a game, don't give a damn what the title of it is, I got a game I'll enjoy.. and that's all that matters. If it wasn't called metroid, I'd still play it as it looks appealing on it's own.

@Aromaiden The thing is, §fun spinoffs" are fine and dandy...for an active series. The Franchise abruptly endet on a very bitter note with otherM, with people still hoping for a game to retcon samus whiny persona.
The Series needed a flagship title again, with a spinoff to fill the gap till release.

Also, the overall frustration about this lackluster presentation probably played its part too.
I can imagine that this felt like a slap to the face for hardcore Metroid fans. Liek a child asking for Mario Kart, getting shovelware Brand Deal Kart instead in an attempt to shut him up. "You got your Kart game thingy, what are you yapping on about ?"

And not making a bigger segment out of it and just nonchallantly playing a teaser trailer out of the blue didnt help either.
Weve seen pretty much nothing, have no idea if its an online horde shooter or if thats just a game mode among many others and its graphics looked like a DS game.

A lot went horribly wrong in todays show, and the games might not even be to blame for this, its just that the overall presentation was extremely lackluster this time around. Its pacing all over the place.
With known games getting another interview (Wooly World, we already had a dev interview, the same with Mario Maker, which really didnt need any more attention) while new games poped up in silent trailer reels which could have benefitet so much more from an interview or at least proper narration and explaination.

Heck, they had one for the new Zelda game, and even THAT wasnt a new concept, we had Co-Op Zelda games already, this would have spoken for itself.

Just imagine the positive reaction it would get if it was announced alongside a main Metroid game..

It looks decent enough, but I'm not one for multiplayer-centric games unless my friends have it too.

I really don't understand how this is disrespecting the franchise? I get people wanted a Metroid game and this is CERTAINLY not what we wanted but regardless of what its based on (and looking at the gameplay this IS a spin off to the prime series no matter how you spin it) if the game provides the users with a fun experience than the title shouldnt matter. Thats just me though

Petitioning for the game to be canceled is a really silly (and pointless) overreaction. To my eyes, it's a rather generic and dull-looking game, but it's developer has a solid pedigree, so there's still hope that it'll turn out decent. It certainly doesn't look truly terrible, in any case, despite being burdened with a name that does it no favors beyond temporarily attracting more attention.

The treehouse footage did show that the mission types were very diverse so at least we know the game isnt just a linear corridor shooter. I do wonder what the public have to say about with hands on gameplay. The non-biased public who dont automatically shun the game when they see it.

Looks like a new IP with the Metroid brand slapped on it. I'm all for spinoffs adding to the lore and such, but this is a slap to the face to all of us who wanted a samus aran adventure in stereoscopic 3d.

If it was a slap to the face they would have named this a main series title, THEN we can all be angry. Looking at the gameplay you can easily see why it has the name Metroid on it, because the gameplay is straight from the prime series. I don't think Next Level Games would just add a title to make more cash. They've never done anything on that caliber before.

@MegaBeedrill Still defending this? Oh my i guess majority of the Nintendo fans (don't believe me? Look around the web brother)are crying kids because they want a new Metriod for the past 6 years? Yeah that's how much we haven't seen a new game for the franchise. Weird. But you know what lets keep making the game they know will sell like crap with the backlash, lets keep doing that. Waiting 6 years for a new game and we got this? I don't except you to give a damn, because you haven't been waiting for so long but the screw the rest of us right? Screw us for wanting more screw us for wanting to play a game in a franchise we know and love screw us. I'm done with you, next reply is going to be more sad than the last.
