I use my fingers. They not only press the buttons, but also replace the millions of stylus I break.
I guess it really depends on the game. For example, with pokemon it's just less effort moving my thumb over to press a command instead of getting out the stylus and putting it back. There are some cases where I really appreciate the stylus (super training particularly) but generally I just go for the convienance... but I never liked mostly stylus based titles like spirit tracks, it takes awhile to get used to the stylus, while also being unresponsive at times (mostly from greasy hands while eating..). I'm more of a button masher than a point and draw gamer, the stylus just feels less accurate and a bit "messier" to utilize..
@CanisWolfred Kid Icarus: Uprising (Just thought of that). They were ok overall, I didn't have many troubles with the touch controls, but lots of people don't like it.
I'm one of those people. It was usable, but I think I ended up using button controls when I got the chance, and I found them much easier for me to use...
EDIT: No, I actually forgot to change the settings. But I tried it just now, and while it took a while, I did end up finding buttons way more usuable. I tried fiddling with the settings for styuls, and it didn't seem to gel with me no matter what I tried. But once I upped the speeds for Button control for the land battles and the stylus controls for the air battles (stylus worked better for that mode), the game plays pretty great now. Had a lot of fun replaying the first level on a higher difficulty.
It's all good to me as long as the game is designed well around the scheme.
I still can't believe how perfectly Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword worked with touch only controls (and it's much more intense than the Zelda games, action wise).
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
Depending on the game I can get used to either. But if given the option I will go with buttons. Never had an issue with Spirit Tracks or Rhythm Heaven. Well, besides scratching the screen through repeated use.
Surprised no one has mentioned Theatrhythm and particularly Curtain Call, which actually lets you choose and even mix them. I hated in the first game when I was doing the hold triggers in Ultimate, as since I was nervous trying to get it right my hand moves a little and it counts as a flick, making me lose many commands.
I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.
Depends on the gameplay, sometimes the buttons work better, sometimes the touchscreen works better. I prefer the 3DS/Wii U touchscreen over Smart Phone touchscreens.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Buttons. I detest using the touch screen to control the actual game or camera, most of the time. It's what killed Kid Icarus: Uprising for me.
The button controls were fairly well with Kid Icarus, actually. It's not completely ideal, but if you fiddle with the sliders, it makes it much easier, whereas no amount of slider-fiddling seemed to make the touch controls work well for me...
You can still use the touch controls for flying, too, which actually works well (again, if you adjust the sliders. The default is pretty much unplayable. Not sure what they were thinking...)
I'm good with either one but I prefer stylus a bit more. For example if there is a game that uses all of either like Theatrhythm FF:CC or half or none stylus/touch control games like Kid Icarus Uprising and The Wonderful 101, I would always go the Stylus route.

definitely a button gamer but I'm currently training with stylus on final fantasy Theatrythm curtain call because I feel like I miss a lot using only buttons.
If it's possible, as in puzzle games and that kind of games, stylus makes the game more fun. It just feels like you're really into the game more, but I think that's true for any unique control scheme like with wii motion controls. It just has to be natural and fun, not forced.

Sometimes touch controls are done well enough to surpass buttons though.
I actually prefer Touch Controls = Motion Controls > Buttons. But this is mainly based off when each control type is working well in a game. When controls aren't working well then Motion Controls are the worst followed by touch and the best when controls are bad are buttons, in my opinion.
