Do any of you use the foamy thing that came in between the 3DS screens?

I use the foam between my 2 screens. With the foam insert I have noticed that the rim of the bottom screen always leave marks on the top screen. In the 5 months I have had my 3DS I have always been able to clean the marks. Without the foam insert I would have had permanent scratches for sure.

Currently I only have a screen protector on my bottom screen. Though my top screen is still in very good condition I will be buying the Hori Screen Protector for it. It seems to be one of the best and apparently very easy to apply and remove.

I use a protector on mine, because its easy to replace with a new protector when it gets dirty/scratched rather than replace the console.

Wait you still get marks even with it on?!

Also who put those Xbox feet on their 3DS?

I put screen protectors on my 3DS and it was horrible, and they were from Hori too. The one for the 3D screen made it all foggy and pixelated when the 3D was on and the touch screen protector got scratched in little under a week. I took off the touch screen protector and it had a massive cut in it as if a knife went through it, you could even bend the thing when before you couldn't.

Never using screen protectors on my 3DS again.

I bought a pack of really good screen protecters at Target for $10 with 3 styluses. They're almost invisible with no air bubbles ( except for the top because you know, you can see where it rises above the screen.), and I've had them for almost a year without getting scratched too badly. While I don't think screen protectors are a necessity, Nintendo touch screens tend to scratch easily. My sister has had her 3DS since August and the only thing she plays is Animal Crossing but she has a lot of scratches. Using my 3DS at least an hour every day, I have no scratches on the screen and minimal scratches on the protector.

Yes, it does. But, the foam insert prevents the rim of the touchscreen from cutting into the top screen and leaving permanent marks. The marks left by the foam insert is always easy to wipe clean without leaving any permanent markings. I've been doing this for 5 months now without any issues.
It's a bit annoying and a lousy oversight on the part of Nintendo but I really couldn't be bothered to send my 3ds in for this.

I highly recommend screen protectors, especially for the 3DS. I play Kid Icarus a lot and I'm glad I got the SPs before I got it; I'm very gentle while playing but it expands the life of the system and eliminates a reason to send it in. Not only to prevent touch screen scratches, but as many people have already mentioned, to prevent the upper screen scratch(without putting foam or a cloth in between the screens). As for dust and bubbles, wash your hands before you apply the SPs and wipe the screens real good. You could always push the bubbles out with your finger or a credit card. Some of the bubbles I had vanished after a while.

I got my screen protectors from the '3DS explorer kit" . It came with 2 additional styluses, 2 screen protectors, a pair of headphones, a cleaning cloth and a traveling case(that can hold 3 games). I got for $20 at Macy's, I highly recommend it.

Handhelds are awesome, you just have to take extra care of them.

Let me check seaches for 3DS and looks for scratches on it, as I don't use a protector I can't find any on mine, and I use mine alot, so you're fine without one.

I always have screen protectors. The 3DS bottom screen just scratches my protector instead of the top screen. Make sure you get good quality ones though because the bad ones get scratched really easily by the stylus. When it's time to replace your screen protector an easy way of removing it is sticking a bit of scotch tape on the corner and slowly lifting it. The whole screen protector just pops off with no marks.

I wish I was back in China though, there was a man in my family's home town whose job was fitting and making custom screen protectors for DS's, PSPs, phones and everything in between. It was totally worth it if you were willing enough to stand and watch on the sidewalk for 15 minutes. He went through all the trouble of cleaning your glass first, cutting the protector to size with a scalpel and somehow ended up with no air bubbles and no dust despite hundreds of cars rumbling past.

you must live in a dust free place then or perhaps you didnt shine a natural light source on it because dust does happen sir thats why i slap a protector on it so it doesnt scratch when i wipe it

so ya to answer the authors question you'll need one given the circumstance of your location

i haven't used screen protectors for years. i have never found ones that are clear enough once they are in place. i don't care for the feel of them, either: the stylus just isn't the same.

i have a very light touch and never lend my handheld out. i have a bottle of excellent lens cleaner from the optometrist's office. i spray just a bit onto the cloth that came with the cleaner and gently wipe my entire 3ds down with it every day. i have no scratches. the shiny area around the top screen bugs me when it gets all fingerprinty, but my cleaning takes them away for a second or 2.

The screen protector on the top screen is really unnecessary, it doesn't help much and the air bubbles are as annoying as heck. The bottom one is a bit more helpful, but it gets scratched so much it looks worse than if you didn't have one... I'll be taking mine off once I replace my lost stylus.

This time, I went with Hori.

One of the main reason I got one for the upper screen, was to protect against scratches relating to the rim on the lower screen.
