Yes, it was Link Between Worlds that they were talking about. This is further supported by their statement that "It will be a game in which having 3D will mean something."

Therefore, the next Zelda game for the 3DS, if there is one, would potentially be Majora's Mask.

I'd be surprised if they don't at some point. It's very simple..."why not?"

I think businesses usually operate based on "why" rather than "why not".

Well Nintendo might need to pad out the 3DS release schedule this year. After Smash Bros launches within the next 3 months, what other big games are coming? Majora's Mask could be an easy to produce game to launch in time for the holiday season. I've been waiting years for a remake to emerge, and even though I'd prefer a HD remake on Wii U, I'll take a 3D remake over nothing at all. There could even be another 3DS XL special edition to sell a couple more million units.

Its a inevitable remake. Like, honestly... its inevitable.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

This years 3DS schedule is criminally bad compared to last years. I'm not convinced Majora's Mask would necessarily be easy to product though. A complete graphical overhaul for a fairly big game is quite the job. It's not like Wind Waker where they could just reuse all of the artwork and touch it up.

There's this interesting form that's been leaked on this matter:

I'm told these things are often fake but given that I'd never seen anything like this before, I innocently assumed it was probably real.

People make a lot of assumptions about this remake. I mean there isn't any grounding evidence it has been worked on, or even started. The Majora's Mask teaser in ALBW could easily be an easter egg reference, or a sign that the next console game has something to do with Majora's Mask. Besides 3DS already as two LOZ games on it, why does everyone assume it's going to appear on that platform?

The 3DS can play ... One... Two... Eight... Ten Zelda games? Eleven with Minish Cap?

One more can't hurt.

A lot of the quotes from the Nintendo guys have been more suggestive than if it was just a random easter egg. In that conference Aonuma answered "will you remake majora's mask" by saying "you'll find your answer in ALBW" (paraphrased). And then director said in an interview that Aonuma specifically asked for the Mask to be in the game and then said "why do you think he would say that?". Assuming these are accurate translations of the japanese, I think this is fairly unambiguous.

As for already having 2 Zelda games. Well the N64 and Gamecube both had 2 original Zeldas. 1 Original Zelda and 2 remakes isn't really asking for too much. I imagine you could probably do 2 remakes for the price of 1 original. Especially given all of the savings involved going from OoT->MM (as they were open about back in the N64 era, MM reused a lot of OoT assets to make it cheaper)

Yeah, if they do decide to remake Majora's Mask, it's pretty much guaranteed that they will do it for the 3DS.

They already have the engine, good results would cost less to produce and the development time would be relatively short.

If they made it for the WiiU it would be too heavy of an investment for a simple remake of a game.

if you have realised Majoras Mask continues off of OoT to find Navi the fairy, so MM is a sequel to OoT they cant only put the 1st part of the 2 games on 3ds only it just wouldnt make sence, I beleive they are making MM 3D

The 3DS isn't powerful enough to emulate N64 games. The only way any of us will ever play Majora's Mask on 3DS is if a remake is built from the ground up for it.

Why would it not be powerful enough when it can handle games that are bigger?

@Unca_Lz Because emulating software is more taxing on hardware than software that's optimized for it, even if it seems easier to emulate. However, I fail to see @Ralizah's point because OoT 3D was built from the ground up, and MM wouldn't be any different.

How good the person/people making the emulator is also is a factor.

The best Neo Geo Emulator for the DS is a better job than the official NES one for the 3DS even with all the extra hardware.

(Its better than the official Wii one in terms of not having slowdown that shouldn't exist on Metal Slug X on difficulty=MVS or difficulty=5).

I have only tried it on my brothers DS Lite but it is very impressive. (And it was not illegal when he bought his R4 - Cex sold him it on the High Street).

just pretend you don't care about MM and the remake will be around before you know it(that's what I did for OoT and it worked, sad thing it wasn't as good as I imagined, great game but not "best game of all time" like some people say)

Except that they already did all the hard work with OoT3D. Now that the 3DS engine has been made they can just base the new MM3D remake off of that.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
