I see all the Monster Hunter games (3 Ultimate, 4 Ultimate, and Generations, anyway) are on sale on the eShop, and I wanted to play them all, so I was going to get Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on my Wii U. But then someone told me that all Monster Hunter games are pretty much the same, and I may as well just get the most recent one (Generations) rather than all of them. I've been unable to find anyone else who has played all 3 of them, so I've come to the community to ask for help. I'm not asking if you think they are good or not, I'm just asking whether they are different enough from each other to warrant getting all 3. Thanks in advance for the help!
@Joeynator3000 Good to know. Thanks! I'm just gonna get 3U for now (if I decide to get them all) and get 4U when I'm done with it. Then Generations when I'm done with that one, whatever version happens to be the best available internationally at the time.
@ALinkttPresent also there are some different mechanics since 4U adds some aerial attacks and adds more climbing mechanics, but it doesn't have underwater battles like 3U.
Personally I prefer 3U, but I think part of the reason may be because I can play on the TV rather than a 3DS.

A lot of people are put off because they see every game being the same, not to mention the grinding. (if you want an equipment set, prepare to fight the same monster multiple times. )

Keep it PG-13-ish.
The games are fairly similar, but do have some differences in gameplay. They are very long games with so much you can do in them, so it might be best to just grab one game and see if you like the series.
