Topic: AR Strange Going On

As I was messing with AR whilst at work, I noticed when my friend had his iPhone on, the Pikmin appeared from it!
I have a pic and will post it when I get in.
Just wondering if anyone has any strange goings on?

@6ch6ris6: what he's referring to is that, when his friend has his iPhone turned on and ZeD was playing AR games on his 3DS, the 3DS picked up the iPhone as the Pikmin card for some reason. sounds pretty neat to me :3

I noticed this same sort of thing when taking AR pics near reflective surfaces. It somehow fools the camera into thinking there's another AR card there.

I can see that happening. In the picture the iphone looks like it is a black surface with a white rim around it already cluing in the 3DS that it might be an AR card. The the color of the screen appears to be similar to the color of the blue spot on every AR card. So that was probably enough to convince the 3DS that the iphone was an AR card of some kind and then it just did its best to guess exactly which one. Pretty cool!

I think the 3DS mistook the iPhone as a card because it's about the same size and shape as an AR card. Why it chose Pikmin, I have no idea...

The hobnobs are gone now! Pikmin ate them all!
I believe the phone was on a Facebook profile page - I remember that Kirby showed up briefly lol

Look, how much awesome it would be, this could easily be done by placing the AR mario in front of the pikmin card. So real... probably not.

@Grayfoxz: what are you talking about? That's clearly an iPhone in the picture he provided.

@tbd - He's claiming it's fake because the Mario from the Mario AR Card could've hidden the Pikmin card, and then, with some proper placing, he could've made it seem like the Pikmin came from on top of the iPhone. Believe what you want to believe, I guess.

I doubt it, I actually just tried it and it's not possible to hide it, the AR card would need to be visual on the camera and it can't move that far away from the card, once the card is blocked at the white lines then the character goes away, so clearly the iphone acted like the AR card for some reason

@Birdman13: ah, i see what you mean. I've got access to both an iPhone 3G and 4 at work, i'll check it out for myself today.
edit: effing hell i knew i forgot to do something today. ah well, tomorrow's another day~
