"On Friday, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime appeared on talk show Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. He said that the upcoming 3D-glasses-free handheld the Nintendo 3DS will be released “next year”. He, apparently, is “mistaken”.
Says who? According to sources close to company’s Japanese headquarters, the Nintendo of America exec made an error when he stated that the Nintendo 3DS would be out next year."

That's odd but it said by the end of the financial year which ends March 2011 that the 3DS will be out and knowing Nintendo their either going to release it in November or push it back.
Just for you.

"Nintendo Co., Ltd. (Nintendo of Japan), however, would not affirm to our sources that the Nintendo 3DS would be released in North America by this holiday season or not."Take this article with a pinch of salt, plus, Japan will get the 3DS before anybody so Reggie may be right and so may this unnamed source.

Awesome, I was still in denial, so now I won't have to accept this bad news after all.

It's possible that Reggie did make a mistake and he was supposed to say 'in the next year' which is different than 'next year'

I didn't really consider that more than a one-off, rough-estimate statement, considering he was half-focused on playing Donkey Kong Country Returns at the time, but that doesn't mean I would get my hopes up for a holiday release.

Japan will get the 3DS before anybody
How do you know that?I think NA got the original DS more than a week before Japan...
Probably getting a Vita with LBP soon...

I'm quite sure Reggie Fils Amie was correct as Japan normally gets these type of things before we do. Unless Nintendo is planning on releasing the Nintendo 3DS in the majority of the nations of Earth simultaneously due to the high anticipation for the Nintendo 3DS.
Nevertheless, I’d be more than happy if the 3DS is actually released this year, yet I shall not get my hopes up only to have them broken to pieces by bad news. I still have a strong feeling that Nintendo won’t release the 3DS in North America and Europe until February of 2011. Yet, I will continue to pray that it is released this Christmas in the West. Perhaps if we all got together and wrote a petition to Nintendo for a Holiday 2010 3DS release that might be of some help or maybe not.
Now if only Nintendo would announce Paper Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Country 64 3D for Nintendo 3DS, I'd be overjoyed indeed.

This is great news, I was really hoping his slip was a mistake and was waiting for a retraction. Hopefully it is a holiday release for NA crosses fingers.
If not...then oh poo!

Don't care either way. If it comes out this year, there's probably no way I'll be able to get my hands on it at launch due to holiday crowds. If it comes out early next year, given how the Wii and DS have sold, there will probably still be plenty of shortages, and there's a good chance I won't get it at launch.
Fine with me.

Watch the clip, he states it almost as if he didn't want to or with some awkwardness. I think he knew he shouldn't have said that, but I guess Reggie isn't very good when he's put on the spot.

Same here. If it comes this year, that is.
I guess Reggie isn't very good when he's put on the spot.
Well, that was probably Reggie's first time doing something like that. He's not an actor like Kevin Butler, and it seemed like such a minor slip-up but with (possibly) major consequences.
