I watched the Direct and nothing hinted a major update. I don't see what all the fuss is about.

Betting Mario Kart 7 free spot pass download will be a Mario 3d world skin for Bowser's car.

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

The issue is though... how are they going to add new content? I don't recall either game having the technical ability to receive DLC, let alone new vehicles, levels, characters, etc.

My thought exactly

There is no need to include DLC or anything like that from the beginning. There aren't any real limitations to a game not being able to get patched and receive new features. The only problem is that with some games you would have to use the SD card or 3DS's internal memory to hold additional patch data.

So, when we getting the patch to allow DLC from Nintendo Zone then?

Because we'd need one for that alone, meaning one would either have to be on the eShop or sent out automatically somehow.

MK7 was patched automatically when that shortcut abuse was discovered (Wuhu Island if I recall correctly). They can force patches on you (firmware updates or whatever they want) whenever you go online. Since DLC requires online, a patch to include it would just be forced onto everyone going online.

Also, I question the idea of releasing DLC for games that no one really plays any more.

Well, that's a stupid question. That's how you get people to start playing again! ...and I'd hardly say that these are games nobody plays anymore...

Bit of a snag when it comes to 3D Land though, it has no online play.

How they gonna force it for that?

Also, I question the idea of releasing DLC for games that no one really plays any more.

Whenever you go to eShop or just connect to Nintendo's servers, it checks your entire 3DS data (most of the time for illegal flash cards actions). If it finds a game that needs updating, it can inform you of such update being available.

I don't know about the whole game DLC thing, but one fact I'm happy about is that when the relay feature gets updated, you'll get the last 6 StreetPass hits for that zone instead of only 1 like before. In my opinion it should have been like this to begin with, but better late then never I suppose.

But if the value/ideal for kids 2DS brings a bunch of new owners like Nintendo hopes, they'll probably be buying MK 7 and M3DL, as well as Pokémon.
