I'm planning on buying a 3DS XL in October 10. I'm upgrading from the aqua blue 3DS that I bought 2 years ago.

Anything I should know like pros and cons?

I would ask more specific questions. Is there anything you're concerned about?

Many people say the speakers aren't as good; there's also the new 3DS models to consider instead. In fact, the new model release is probably the biggest thing to consider as a con.

I'm just curious, since I want to buy the NES-themed 3DS XL. But since the "new" 3DS and 3DS XL were confirmed, I'm not that sure. Does the XL increase battery life? The little 3DS' battery isn't that good after a while.

Speakers might not be a problem since I might use headphones for it.

The speakers are annoyingly soft compared to the original, but if you're using headphones then no worries. Be warned, your new 3DS may very well be just for sure in just a year, depending on if Nintendo decides to cease support for old models in favor of their New models

I was going to upgrade too but i think it makes more sense to wait for the "New" 3DS XL

I believe it does have better battery life, I can leave it in sleep mode for at least a couple of days with some gaming in between before it runs out of juice. My only advice would be to wait for the "new" 3DS XL to arrive because that'll be an even bigger upgrade from your current model but if you really just want that NES 3DS XL then go for it.

The XL model has a slightly superior battery life.......but, I would just wait for the "new" 3DS XL...

Haha, this thread is certainly timely.

Personally I can forgive the Big N for trying to drub up sales of the 3DS XL given the Holidays, it's just a shame they couldn't bring us the new 3DS model by that time!!

I love my XL. Its only negative is the placement of the L button IMO. But, unless that NES color scheme is the most imporant part of a game console to you. There is literally no reason to buy an XL over a New XL at this point.

There's no real danger of future 3DS games being locked out of the Old 3DS. At least not for any game that can conceivably run on the 3DS hardware (hint: Xenoblade CAN'T). But there are so many positives to the New XL over the current one... there is just no reason to upgrade right now.

Except that the New 3DS could release any time between 4 and 15 months from now.

Its coming out Oct 2014 in Japan. I'm actually shocked Nintendo of America isn't going to have then ready to roll for the holidays. I honestly don't think they'll be to far into 2015. If they wait for Christmas 2015 I'd be incredibly disappointed in them.

15 months? That's too far out I think, the hype would have long died. Who knows if the 3DS consoles will still be a thing in late 2015, or just an inexpensive stocking stuffer while Nintendo unveils its next new console!

Nintendo of America hasn't even mentioned the new 3DS at all. I don't know why everyone assumes it will come out anytime soon. I'd be surprised if it came out before E3 next year. Are you really willing to wait that long. They won't officially announce it until at least January. If you want the NES 3DS XL, I'd get it.

Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword
