Topic: Anyone else opposed to Senran Kagura?

It's interesting seeing peoples affection for Senran Kagura. As far as I know, the game has good game-play but how can someone throw morality away for such a curiosity? Perhaps they have no morals in this aspect. I don't know.

I'm aware that there are other games that are just as perverted or worse. However, Senran Kagura is especially offensive for it's blatant gimmick (you know what it is) and it's heavy use of adverts.

I admit it is attractive, but I have self-control. Plus, how do you think the developer wants you to view women and what he deems to be most valuable in women. And you want to support that?

I tried to condense this message as much as possible. Don't want to burden people down with too many words. Please share your own thoughts.

...the game is harmless. It could be much, much worse.

...the game's main issue, I hear, is framerate...

For some gamers, they play Senran Kagura because it's a solid brawler with lots to unlock. In fact, I find it hard to believe that anyone would buy the game solely for the fanservice - if the game itself were awful, I'm sure it'll get low sales and reviews regardless of how much exploitation there is.

There was actually an interesting discussion about this in the main thread (I forgot which page though). We ended up agreeing that while it's a moral grey area, it also portrays women as interesting characters with developed personalities. They're clearly not pieces of fanservicey cardboard, which is more that can be said for many other games being released lately.

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

Could be worse, but its still bad. I don't see how this is harmless, especially since a younger audiences can see it.
I've read that there is an article talking about how Senran Kagura is hurting the industry. Haven't read it yet and it sounds a bit dramatic. Though, it could pave the way for more games like this if it continues to be more widely accepted. So in that sense it could damage the gaming industry to some extent. Plan on reading it later.

EDIT: Replaced "isn't" with "is", in the second sentence.

eh code of princess has similar issues but it's a fun brawler. i picked up said game for this very reason. they could be dressed as amish folk and i would buy it if it was a solid brawler.

You find the innuendo to be amoral, but not the violence? That's odd.

At any rate, no. The game is pretty harmless. The ESRB gives it a rating of T, which I agree with. I don't think that 13 year olds are at any increased risk of being morally corrupted by comedic depictions of cartoon underwear.

As for what the developer thinks of women (not that it would have any relevance), you would be surprised by the depth of character in the game. There are long sections of text-only exposition. No underwear. No innuendo. Just reading about the girls and what motivates them in their day-to-day lives. The game is half brawler, half visual novel.

Calling this game misogynist is like calling a harlequin romance novel misandrist. It's smut, but it's harmless smut that isn't particularly damaging or disrespectful to anyone.

I'm against it too man. There's a difference between being prudish and being moral. Looking back at my life, and looking at experiences I've had, and others have had, stuff like this is just designed to titillate and stir up lust. I'm not talking about the gameplay or anything like that, but for me, all the perverted parts would ruin the whole game for me. A Krispy Kreme donut with a cockroach in the middle may be an awesome donut, but it still has a cockroach in it. And if you're a teenager or adult who has no self-discipline or self-control, soft porn like this is just a gateway drug to the real thing, hard porn. And the harmful effects of porn are very very well documented. Fight the new drug, com has lots of that data. Plus, personally having had a best friend who used to be hooked on porn, and looking at who he is now, I'm totally against it. Stuff like that is only about lust and self-indulgence. Distorted views on sexuality and women in general are just side effects.

I don't know if you were referring to me, but my "bizarre" argument is rooted in personal experience.

I don't find inuendos, panties, or bouncing boobs appropriate for children in any circumstance. What people allow children to watch and/ or play has an affect on how they see life. You can tell based on promotional images and boxart that this is not as innocent as you guys portray it to be.

As for violence, CaviarMeths, that is unrelated to the conversation.

...basically, what is morally "wrong" to one person can be perfectly OK for someone else — I have no issues with Sneran Kagura at all. It's all personal opinion.

I, very much, agree what you said. I heard it put "If the cake batter has just sprinkles of poo in it and baked would it be good for you?". As crude as the quote may be, The same applies here.

I suggest you keep to yourself, really. You'll just get a lot of hate. You have to remember that this is Japan we're talking about, and there's a whole market based on fanservice games. This paving the way for more imported J games would mostly help rather than hinder the 3DS' support, since it can appeal to a broader audience, in a way.

The game is rated T and completely harmless. As a teenager, after playing this game, I really don't think it affected my respect for women or whatever, and I can pretty much say this for any teenager with decent mental stability. They're just super sexy 3D images of girls that don't exist. No need to get your funbags out of control. And you don't need to force morals onto everything and everyone you see. Most people are actually fine with this (given the T rating and all.) You can't assault a game just because it offends a minority of gamers.

It is attractive to an extent, but it is really more ridiculously hilarious than anything else.

For my own sanity, this is going to be my one post in this thread.

Ok, you guys realize, this game is a joke right? I've seen enough of the game to determine it is kind of a joke, a ridiculously shameless "lol women's bodies sure are hawt1!111!" joke taken to ridiculous heights because sexy things are a punchline in Japan. It is supposed to be shameless and perverted. That's the joke. Now, you can say it's not a very good joke, but that was what they're clearly going for. And personally, if nothing else I prefer that to the people who put this stuff in unironically just to get the attention of adolescent boys.

Also, the idea of having sexy anime girls is not the same as having opinions on women. Watch some footage of Skull Girls and then look up the people behind it if you need proof that.

That said, I don't care about this game at all. It just kinda exists and Conception 2 is a way more interesting "oh Japan" game anyway.
