I always get the physical carts as far as retail games go. However, that decision is purely based on personal preference. I like having my games side by side on a shelf or book case of some sort. It's really neat when friends and guests visit my apartment and can actually see all the different games I have. They never would've known about my sweet gamin' collection if they were all hidden away in a dark corner digitally on my 3ds.
This is what i have my Wii U collection for.
Although my partner collects her games and has the carts, so its win win lol. I have my collection digitally while we can still display the collections. She does have most of the games i have so we can play together (Mario Kart, etc.)
Can't decide on retail or download...I'm getting one or the other for my wife as well. I have a 3DSXL with a 4GB card in it, but can't find where it tells me how much space I have left. I know it does on the shop but I'm not at home or with wifi right now. There has to be another way.

I seriously can't decide.
I know that digital would be so much more practical, especially because I just know i'm about to get addicted to this game, but it just seems so empty and wrong not having the box on my bookshelf 0_0
(aaaand now I sound strange. but whatever.)

Digital, because I don't want to give the middleman retailers my money instead of Nintendo, its much more conveiniant to boot up, and digital copies never get broken, smashed, or eroded.
Exactly. If I were purchasing PAL games, they're $60-70 instore. Even if I were to have them mailed over as NTSC from Amazon, that's still $35 + $12 shipping.
Much easy to get them straight from the eShop. Plus I'm really lazy and changing cartridges requires effort, while pressing "Home", the D-Pad a couple of times, and then the A button twice takes literally no effort at all.
Stay safe, kids: Make sure to save frequently during multiplayer, and always use a stylus!
I always get physical, but I can see the appeal of this downloaded onto the system. Still even without a real manual the box will look great on my shelf.

Is Nintendo releasing the game on the eShop in all time zones at the same time? Because I live in Toronto and I'm unsure of if I will actually be able to download the game at midnight. I swear, if I stay up waiting for the ability to download the game, and then it isn't available yet because it's being released on midnight in some other time zone, I'm going to freak the hell out.
I'm getting physical as always! Less than 18 hours before I can pick it up, I'm so excited!!
Now I'm kinda glad that none of my friends live near me, because come tomorrow, my real life will be out the door.

It releases all at once. It comes out midnight in some time zone... all I know is I live in Vancouver, and games always release at 9:00pm. So it should be out at 12:00 for you.
I like having the boxes on the shelf. Having games on an SD card makes me super paranoid about losing the console or having it stolen.
BUT
I'm downloading because:
a) I'll play this everyday for a year and I'm more likely to lose a loose cartridge on the bus than the whole system.
b) If the console was stolen, AC would be in the cart slot anyway so I'd still lose my town.
For me the biggest knee-jerk issue is having my game collection split over physical and digital. I got 3D Land free and Fire Emblem is the only game I've bought digitally (Gamestop were sold out and the download code from Game was actually cheaper). I don't like having two games on the shelf when I know I've actually got 5. I'd rather keep them all in one place. But hey, that's just me being anal.
Alright everyone, I have an update. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome of my decision. I just got back from my local GameStop and purchased an eShop card so I can download AC:NL. Yup, I decided to go digital. However, I have such a good relationship with the employees that they let me have one of the empty display boxes from the store shelf. AWESOME, right?! Now I got the best of both worlds. The convenience of the digital copy, and the collectible glamour of the physical box on my shelf. Now I just gotta actually START the game to see what all this hype is about. I'm sure I'll become easily addicted like many have assured. Thanks to all who recommended it. Happy Gaming!!! @MYNISTA@Stumpweasel@KingJoonToon@Konata@crumpledpapyrus@electroworld
I got it as a physical cart because I enjoy collecting physical copies of 3DS games. If I ever download a game, it would only be so that I could redeem it in Club Nintendo.
