I have no problem with A as A and B as B. It works.
I just REALLY wish they had used X as START just like they made Y SELECT.
Seriously, there's the (rather large and centric) Touch Screen to enter the VC menu and pressing the 3DSs START button feels just dangerous with old games (like TLoZ:LA) that use it too much (unlike SELECT which I rarely use anyways).
Try playing an NES game using the Classic Controller (like a Super Mario Bros. game). You have to position your thumb awkwardly just to press A and B together.
Where are all the Game Gear and Turbografix games? Where are all the Game Boy Color games (we only have Zelda)? Did Sega and NEC change their mind about supporting the VC?

Absolutely, that's why their games are still listed as "coming soon"
Current games: Everything on Switch
Switch Friend Code: SW-5075-7879-0008 | My Nintendo: LzWinky | Nintendo Network ID: LzWinky
Here's how it should be: A (GB) should be B (3DS), and B (GB) should be Y (3DS)
Can I just point out that if you don't have a gameboy
inspect the above image......................
now look at your 3DS.

Snes games are apparently really hard to emulate for the 3ds. Even the wii can barley handle them.
I highly doubt that. The 3DS has more than enough power to handle SNES games and the Wii doesn't have any trouble at all. Considering a certain group of people managed to use a certain device to get SNES games running with no problems on the DS and the PSP via means we're not supposed to talk about I'm sure the 3DS wouldn't struggle.
The A and B buttons on the Game Boy are at a slightly lower angle than the ones on the 3DS, Classic Controller, and SNES controllers.
Well yes, the GB has them at what... 30deg? and the 3DS/SNES/CC has them at 45deg. All that says to me is that it'd be even stranger if it was rotated around to B and Y because then you'd be going from 30deg to -45deg! I don't see how anyone could think that the A and B buttons on the GB map to any other buttons better than the A and B buttons on the 3DS. When the Super Gameboy was around they mapped it to the same buttons on the SNES controller.
I really don't see why you'd want it any differently.

Play Super Mario All-Stars and Super Mario World on the Super NES. It's much easier to position your thumb on the B and Y buttons, since that's how your thumb is angled.
Well then go back to the 1980s and complain to Nintendo that they designed the Gameboy wrong.
You completely missed my point. My point is, if they remapped A and B to the 3DS' B and Y it would make controlling games much easier. Go play Super Mario World and you'll see what I mean.
I know exactly what you're trying to say, look at my Avatar. Out of all the Mario Karts Super Mario Kart probably had the WORST controls. A was items, B was accelerate, Y was brake and the shoulder buttons were jump/drift. It probably would have been better if they had one of the shoulder buttons for items and A for accelerate.... but they didn't and I wouldn't want them to change it in VC versions.
Because that's how we played these games on their original consoles which is, IMO, what the VC is all about.
edit: and yes, I know how Super Mario World controls. I've spent sooo many hours on that game and, like many, the next 2D Mario game I played was New SMB on the DS. More or less the same controls over and over again.
I'd like to see custom control options, so both kinds of people can get the control scheme they desire. I doubt it will ever happen to the Virtual Console, but it's a common feature in many retro compilations and on other services.
As for the topic, I fully approve of the 3DS having the majority of the Wii's download catalog. In an ideal situation, they would be transferable to and from the different consoles, complete with the save data (har har).

How would the save data transfer if it's locked to the system? In order for that to work it would need to be linked to an online account (like how PSN works).

At most this.... as long as it defaults to the original control scheme.

I'm fairly sure the save data is separate from the executable/rom. Even if they don't make it work automatically and even if they don't allow the transfer of games they could still make the save files compatible. Even if not they, or even someone else, could make a tool to copy/convert the VC save data from one system to another. Maybe a thing in the Wii Data Management area that allows you to connect a 3DS and copy VC save data for the VC games you have on your 3DS.... the same way you can copy over Miis for eg.
Maybe they could extend that idea and allow you to copy over VC games from the Wii to one 3DS........
The E-Shop has only been up for two months, and we already have a great library of GB games to choose from. These things take time, and Paitence, which some gamers don't have apparently. In other words, enjoy the games we have now, and maybe down the line, Nintendo might consider it.

But that's it, just Game Boy games. Nintendo announced Sega Game Gear and Turbografix support months ago, and it hasn't happened yet.
