Topic: Ambassadorship with a replaced 3DS

My sister got her 3DS back from the repairs, but it seems like they just replaced the old unit with a new one: it has none of the old data or the downloaded software. It even has a new serial number. I'm just concerned about how this will affect my sister's ambassador status. It will be horrible if she can't get the free games and the already downloaded things back at all.

What do you think about this? Will Nintendo of Europe's upcoming ambassador verification tool help my sister out or is the situation totally hopeless? We sent an e-mail to our local Nintendo distributor and I can only hope they will fix this horrible screw-up...

@Olaf-symbiote Most likely, since your sister purchased her 3DS for the original price, before the deadline, Nintendo would most likely still be able to give her the games, if not, that would be very displeasing. I've had many problems with that, sending in my sisters DSi for repairs and not receiving the same unit or software back. Hope it gets fixed.

Ah man! Why did it need repairs?

I read on the Nintendo UK website that if you didn't go into the e-shop in time, you could still register, but you needed your proof of purchase. I didn't read all the details, because I assumed mine was working, but there's something about it here:
http://www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/systems/nintendo_3ds_amba...

Your sister is one of the really good people to have on the friends list. I always love reading her comments. Does she have a new friend code?
(PS .... just read her number in the Friend Code list and will add it.)

Her 3DS started to turn off by itself and made a popping sound everytime it happened. Before we sent it we checked out the 3DS and it didn't even turn on anymore. Hope that's not the reason why they didn't put the data back.

I just hope that ambassador tool will work for my sis, since she has a new serial number. At least we have the original receipt. Let's just hope for the best.

My sister new FC is 2191-7843-7694. I've also updated my sig so that it has the new FC now. I hope everyone who added her will add her once again .

My guess if you can still get the free games, but you'll need to jump through many annoying hoops. Call or email Nintendo.

If you want those games, I'd suggest you get on to it straight away! My experience with things like that is the sooner you sort it out, the better.

They may flat out refuse once the program has begun.

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.

Nintendo will most likely help you. I was in a similar predicament too. I registered my Nintendo DSi on the wrong Club Nintendo account after a couple of emails Nintendo let me register it on the right account and I even got the points.
I also sent my Nintendo 3DS to Nintendo back in June (wouldn't connect to any internet connections in my area.), and when I got it back all of my data was reset. What type of problem did your sister have with her 3DS? Was so bad that Nintendo had to send you a new system?

Link79

I once sent my Wii in for repairs and accidentally left a game in the drive.
I called them up and told them about my goof. When I got my Wii back the disc was returned also and everything was fine.
I'm sure Nintendo will help you out with your problem. They usually make a point to treat their customers right.
I still probably would have waited until after the Ambassador thing to send the 3DS in though.

The system started turning off by itself and made a loud popping sound everytime it happened. I think the issue had something to do with the battery. When we checked out the console one last time before sending it for repairs, it didn't even turn on! I still imagined they'd be able to restore all the data, though. Haven't peole been sending their completely busted Wiis to Nintendo and they've still been able to recover the downloaded games?

Yeah, we actually wanted to send it after the ambassador games had arrived, but the problem became so bad that we had no choice but to send it. Too bad the problem couldn't have started much earlier than the ambassador thing...

We e-mailed them yesterday and I hope they'll answer us soon...

Were the repairs done under warranty (ie, when you sent the console off to be repaired, did you also send a copy of the purchase receipt, and was the repairs done for free?)

I assume that is what happened, in which case you should be fine, just contact Nintendo and don't let them talk themselves out of it. Under warranty means the new device should be treated as the same as the old device.

If you lost your receipt, and paid to have it "repaired" effectively out of warranty, then the case might be a bit more difficult.

Either way you're going to need to contact Nintendo. There's not much more this forum can do in this case.

I suggest e-mail is not the best way to get answers. One thing all journalists learn early on is, where possible, ring the person you want to speak to. e-mails are easy to ignore, and far less personal. You want Nintendo/ whoever to know the tone of your voice and "you personally," as it builds rapport.

We sent the copy of the receipt with the console, and we used our warranty to get it fixed, so things should probably be alright for us.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind! First I'll see how they answer the e-mail and if their reply isn't satisfactory, I'll give them a call.

First of all. I'd locate the Ambassador confirmation page and chack to see if your sister qualifies on the site. If she doesn't, I'd call Nintendo immediately. When I e-mailed Nintendo a few weeks ago looking into reapiring my 3DS, I got a response roughly 2 days later that translated to "Please call us about your problem, thank you," and considering your circumstances, I can't really imagine your response to be any different.

Exactly.

I will add your sisters new Friend Code sometime this afternoon.
You will still have mine, although my name is ‛Kitch‛ on the Friends list.

…about the Ambasador status thing, im sure they will have record of the repair and you will have the original receipt so they will be able to give the new system Ambassador status.

Hey I have your sister's old FC on my 3DS so should I delete that one? Also tell her to add my friend code and I'll add her new one. Mine is 1332-7740-2704

Hope she still gets her ambassador status

Nintendo replied to our e-mail and we only have to send the 3DS back and they'll fix this issue . Apparently they originally tried to transfer my sister's eshop account into the new 3DS, but there was some error, which resulted into us not being able to connect to the eshop at all and getting the error code 7- something.

So, in other words: my sis will still retain her ambassadorship! WOHHHOOOOOO!!!! Y'all should still keep her new friend code and delete the old one, though, as they probably can't recover that information. Anyway, no harm done at all .

Yes, you should delete her old friend code because it doesn't update the information on it any more.
