@WaltzElf I agree the categories could be better (see above post) but other than that I think we agree. The eShop HAS all the features it's just not managed as well as other online shops.
As for the slow speed of the 3DS downloads it's probably more to do with the speed of the servers Nintendo uses. Maybe you're blaming the wireless for the fact that the download process is "clunkier" than on other platforms. I don't know, it shouldn't technically be slower and I haven't personally noticed it performing worse. Then again I am on 5Mbps internets.....
And yes, Game invites would be nice but they have come a LONG way and for me it's a fairly small annoyance. Then again, I don't have any 3DS games I can play online yet anyways

3DS downloads are pretty fast for me. I use Qwest DSL internet at 20Mbps.
Well yeah, the fact that it's wireless g makes little to no real world difference. If anything I have more trouble connecting my 4th gen iPod Touch to the App store than I do connecting my 3DS to the eShop. I've also noticed that when I connect to the Nintendo WFC on Pokemon Black I have a lot less trouble on my 3DS than I did on my DS Lite.......

Yes, I agree that the eShop is capable of most, if not all, the iOS app store is able to do. That's why it frustrates me so that Nintendo is deliberately doing it worse.

A direct time comparison. I timed the length of time it too me to download Let's Golf 3D, and a 2GB PSN game. Let's Golf isn't even close to 2GB, and it took literally twice as long on my ADSL 2 connection. Nintendo clearly has some kind of issue when the end-user has fast Internet, whatever that is.
ATM they have 19 non-default items on the front page. Some of them have duplicate items, some don't do what they say, some are ridiculous (games that start with R?) and some are missing things (Platformer Paradise doesn't have Kirby's Adventure or Super Mario Land for eg). At the other end of the spectrum some of the categories are brilliant like the Art Style one or the Zelda 25th one. I really liked the idea of racing category they had up for a while even though there wasn't much in there...
If they cut back some of the crap categories and made sure the ones they had made sense then it'd be much better. As it is I don't really feel like browsing through these categories because there doesn't seem to be much to see. I guess maybe it will improve as the content improves but I'm not holding my breath........

Nintendo can definitely turn it around, but they have to put in the effort. Look at how much the PS3 evolved from its first few years.. The biggest problems with the 3DS were the price and lack of games, but seem to have been sorted now, but with rumours about a redesign coming so soon, it's hardly surprising a lot of people are losing faith. If this actually happens, then it's essentially Nintendo themselves announcing what a failure the 3DS was, not analysts.
A 3DS redesign is just Nintendo improving on the faults of the current model. They won't be abandoning the platform, they will be fixing what was wrong with it. It's just like what Nintendo did with the GBA SP and DS Lite.
You'll pay for another system if the paranoid hyper rumor mill is correct and it just happens that there is a redesign soon that is required for new games and then only if you think it's worth spending more money for a redesign. If the more likely scenario happens and it's a non-manditory redesign like every other redesign that has ever happened you'll stick with your 3DS which will still work in the same way it did before said hypothetical redesign for every single new 3DS game until the death of the 3DS ..... or you'll rage and get a Vita...... or maybe not even that.

I think Nintendo is incapable of competing in the current generation. If you can't manage to get a decent online service for your system, your going to get left behind.

Quoted for truth. In terms of the eShop, the lack of 3D downloads is the biggest problem. While there are plenty of good DSiWare games, when I first get a system I'm more interested in playing games that take advantage of its new capabilities. What would be so hard about creating some simple 3D puzzle games or something to get things going? I'm sure many Nintendo employees could create something moderately compelling in a couple weeks, with an extra week or two to polish it up.
Things are slowly starting to pick up on the retail front, but it won't be all the way there until the end of the year. I'm glad now that I never played any of the games being remade for the system, so I at least have something compelling to play.

Sony was good in Europe and Japan, the 3rd sucks everywhere. Their lame attempt at releasing shitty nes games suuuuuuucks!
The 3rd what sucks everywhere? PS3 is doing fine. Sony actually listens to what their fans want, and they've improved the PS3 in pretty much every way. And now that the price is $250, it's an extremely good deal.
