Well I haven't played a pokemon in like 15 years and liked it back then. I figured now is the time to get back into the series. As for AC I played it to death on the cube and skipped the ds version. It's looking good enough to also jump back into that series as well so yes to both!

I've never played either. My daughter is saving her money for a purple 3DS and i think she might like AC.
She should do fine. Think of it as the Sims but with animals and a lighter version of it. Help your town grow. Go fishing catch bugs. Decorate your house with items you buy or find. Looks like good fun.
