Topic: Advice on SD card/storage issues

Posts 1 to 20 of 20

Reenie

I realise that this question will reveal that I am totally uneducated about technology, but I need to know!

I download a fair few games from the eshop. I have (obviously) a SD card in my 3ds. Now, I assumed that the games I downloaded were stored on the SD card, because otherwise storage space would be an issue.
Question: Is this the case? And if not (which I am sure is the case), how do I check the amount of space left on my 3ds? And is there any way of getting around this? I don't want to delete any games I have bought because it will destroy my save files...

3ds ware is saved already on the sd card but not dsi ware so you need to copy it over,go to system settings,then data management,choose dsi ware to copy games over to the sd card,and there should be on the top screen blocks remaining,different games got different amount of blocks due to content,make sure you got enough blocks on your system to play dsi ware because you cant play dsi ware off a sd card and when you blocks is used up on your sd card you need a new one for more games.
additional note:i you got so far on a game thats a dsiware,copy the same title on the sd to copy your game file just in case you need to delete the game because if you do,the game data is deleted

Go to SETTINGS and then click on DATA MANAGEMENT. If you move DSiWare games over to the SD they should retain the save datas. I believe that 3DSWare data is stored somewhere else, so you don't have to worry about that.

Vincent294

See data management from the system settings. Clicking on DSiWare/Nintendo 3DS, and then the SD Card subsection/any subsection, respectively, will show you your memory. Need more room? Buy a bigger SD Card, and on your, PC/Mac, follow these instructions. Also, check other topics on this. I've answered this a billion times. I need to save this as a document, so I can copy and paste this when I need it. For now...see the link I mentioned: Link Go to Data Management, and see transfer data between SD Cards.

Oh, and before you download anything from the eShop, scroll down on this one info screen right before you download anything to see how much memory you'll have after.

Go to "system settings",
hit "data mangement"
Click "Dsiware" to see what dsiware you have and what memory it's on
"Streetpass Mangement" let's you look at what streetpass titles you have working
Then you'll want this, "Nitnendo 3DS"
Under it you'll find, "software", "Extra Data" and "Add-On Content"
Any of them will show what you have for sd card memory and what kinds of things you have on your sd card that are not dsiware and let's you know what is what. If you just downloaded 3DS games you'll only need "Software".

I hope that helps. Also when downloading games you can see how much memory it takes up, what you got and how much you'll have left after download. Hope I helped.

Cool; I went to the data management area...when I went to copy it onto the SD card, it said that I wouldn't be able to launch it. Does this mean I can never launch it again? If I transfer it onto the SD card, can I transfer it back onto system memory with the save files attached and still play it? I have only 24 blocks left on my system memory.....I have 4, 576 on my SD card...

I am crap with this sort of thing but I am learning slowly!

But I really wish I could play my games off the SD card. The system memory is just not enough.

@dark-insanity
How many blocks are on the system memory without any games? Because it cannot be much!
And finally, what of my ambassador games and non dsi/3ds games? any way to transfer them onto the SD card?

I tested moving them onto SD and deleting them off system memory, then moving them back to system memory; Works fine! save files still safe <3

Thanks heaps everyone!

@VincentV

That would be a good idea. Having a specific area for this type of thing would be great for someone like me....
It would stop me from annoying people like you with tech issues!
