If this specific AC:NL subject/thread is deemed to be an unnecessary waste of space by mods, I understand.
I'm wondering if there's interest in specific discussion of flowers, tips and ideas for creating a wonderful landscape, and creating/swapping/selling hybrids, because getting a nice colorful, vibrant landscape is attractive. I want that Willy Wonka vibe.
I've visited some great looking towns, and have been inspired to explore the hybrid process further, as difficult as it may be. Has anyone created a mini hybrid farm, and if so, are you finding success, and what are you finding that gives you the best results?
What about trees? Are you going for lots of scattered trees, or big open areas? Do you have a fruit tree location scheme, or just plop 'em in any place they fit?
I have been putting my flowers in zig-zag patterns around my roads and other empty areas, I usually get at least one hybrid every few days... Sometimes more, other times nothing.
I have heard that watering your flowers with silver/gold cans, having good luck (by arranging well your furniture and having lucky items in your house) and reaching perfect town status greatly increase the chances of getting hybrids everyday.
According to the guide - The orientation of your flowers might have an effect. In previous Animal Crossing games, having the flowers touch diagonally was better, but in other games, having them in straight rows was better.
So, you guys are finding success with the criss cross/diagonal method in New Leaf. I have some rearranging to do. I think I might try creating mini hybrid farming in some of the dirt patch areas. I'm also interested in buying flowers if anyone is willing to sell. My gardening shop just opened, but it's a slow , daily process of attaining a good assortment.
I got some pink flowers from red and white crisscrossed flowers, but that's it so far. You just have to move the hybrid somewhere else after that, and eventually mix the hybrids I, think.. Eventually, they just give you the gold and silver roses, because you mastered gardening.

Here's a Tree stump guide. Don't be shy about chopping a few trees. One, it gives you more options to work with, and two, big bell bucks can be had, and eating particular mushrooms that grow around the stump can give you some additional benefits.
