Trophies/Achievments implemented correctly can add extreme value to a game. Usually multiple playthroughs and trying different playstyles, etc.

which I do in games without Achievements anyway. Assuming they are worth playing again of course.

Because they dont have them and its another thing that Nintendo is lagging behind the times on just like online wich is why they hate them.

nice logic, if you don't like achievements you're automatically a fanboy

@kkslider... No im not saying that at all. Ill put it to you this way. Im 28yrs old and if I was 10-14yrs old and all I had was a Wii/DS I would be a Nintendo fanboy all the way unless my parents bought me another system, wich when I was 10-14 there would be no choice as they couldnt have afforded it. Another thing is that Pure Nintendo fans that love nothing but the Nintendo style of games are prob not going to appealed by achievements more than likely, I cant say for sure there because Im not. I have full respect for these types of gamers by the way. This isnt being rude at all, but did you miss the fact that I do see a negative side to trophy/achievements? Its a free addition to the game that can be ignored if chosen, but it also keeps gamers in check as the "Oh Ive beaten Bioshock onthe hardest difficulty without using a Vita Chamber", really? well your trophy/achievement will prove it or not lol.

These are cool as well Few of my PSN Personal IDs including my up to date one now. And of course its all FREE

Achievements: meh. I like them when the developers actually integrate them into the game and I get some sort of reward for it, but achievements just for the sake of achievements? I don't see a need for it.

Didn't games used to have unlockable content and that was reason enough to continue to play them? I don't get the whole achievement thing.... or at least, I don't get when people complain about a game not having achievements. I've always judged a game's greatness on how likely I am to keep playing it after I've beaten it, and chances are usually much greater when there are interesting things to unlock. If a game is good enough, I'm probably going to "achieve" many things while playing it, so why do I need a fake trophy???

Oh wait... I just noticed that kkslider5552000 already said what I'm trying to say. So yeah. That thing.

Now that I have Steam, I realized that Achievements can be fun, to an extent. It gives the player a nice sense of accomplishment when they unlock an achievement, but I usually unlock achievements by accident. Once I realize what I did, I get that sense of accomplishment.

68/364 Team Fortress 2 achievements unlocked!...

Hokori

Nintendo DOES have achievements they have since before Xbox came, just not in the form "ACHIEVEMENTS"

Look at Wario Land Shake it! collect all treasures, beat the corse in under 1 min. SSBB beat Boss Battle on Intense. MKwii get a Star on all Retro Corse. what about collecting all Gold Skulltillas in OOT. All Pain Jobs in Excite games. Or more recent Epic Yarns treasure.

Haha, I have 112 achievements out of the 364 (or 31%). Most of those have been accidentally unlocked over a course of my 135 hours of play time. It really does feel nice when you unlock one
They just need to add one more achievement to have an achievement for every day in a year. O.O
Excluding leap years of course.

That is in game achievements man. Completing things such as this would in turn give you a overall achievement outside of the game to a profile that is permant to your screename, like my PSN ID tags I posted above. Your friends then can check out your profile online and see what all you have completed on the ingame achievements and compare it to their own profiles, etc.

Yeah but my question is: how the heck cares about that anyway? My friend Danny has 12 achievements on Uncharted 2! Cool!
I'm not trying to hate, I just don't get why it's such a massive deal that Nintendo doesn't have them. I have a PS3 and I like achievements, but it's really not a deal breaker; let alone a system seller.

Wii Sports Resort has stamps, but I don't need those to keep me playing. I prefer a leader board. Seeing my brothers face with the high score in Archery or Table tennis is enough motivation to perfect my technique!

I don't think anyone's saying they're a deal breaker. I'm still going to get a 3DS even if it doesn't have achievements. But I would find it disappointing if it doesn't have them.

It's the same deal with virtual console, really. I don't really care for virtual consoles, but other people like them. If it's not much effort to offer it, and it's a popular idea (achievements and virtual consoles), the Nintendo really should do it.

Except that both do require much effort. And money. Which is why every old school game isn't on the VC and Nintendo will say that not enough of their user base is online to make the costs for developing achievements worthwhile. Even on PSN, we get Capcom saying they'll think about releasing Megaman Legends 1 and 2 as PSOne Classics. No "Sure, you bet! It's no effort at all! We like free money!", but rather, more of a "We'll go over the costs and project some revenues and see if it's even worth doing more than thinking about."

But then, given that Apple recently jumped on the achievements bandwagon with their Game Center, Nintendo may feel it necessary to do something similar for the 3DS. If they do, I will care about those achievements about as much as I do on PSN and Steam...

I don't think trophies are the reason Capcom will go for the retro appeal of releasing PSOne classics. I think that would be more of a case of marketing and, well, going for the rtro appeal of releasing PSOme classics.

Lots of old school games don't pop up on VC as a result of scheduling or licensing, not because it's especially difficult to put games on the service. I'm not saying it's no effort or expense whatsoever, but really, it's minimal, and certainly no effort on Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, Valve and Apple to mandate achievements on games put on their digital download platforms.

All I'm saying is if every other platform vendor, aside from Nintendo, sees value in achievements, there has to be some value in achievements. And really, as far as things to do, implementing a gamer score is a relative easy one for them.

I really could care less about if achievements are on the 3DS as long as the option to turn off notifcations is also their. I seriously spent ten minutes in my PS3's options just hoping to be able to turn them off. Few things are more jarring when I finish a game then to have a little ding pop up and let me know I finished it...

Also what the hell is up with secret achievements? Anyone who cares to do them will just look them up online and anyone who doesent care wont, making the whole thing moot.

What's good about games like TF2, is that there is no set goal, apart from winning, so this is a place where the achievements really shine. It's games where there are no story plots, and offering multiple plays that are good for achievements.

@tbd.... lol that was really funny. I think you guys are taking me wrong. I'm buying 3DS day one regardless of if they are there or not. I think its a cool freebie that Nintendo should add, if they don't then no big deal, with the exception that it will be used against Nintendo for not having it with it becoming mainstream. Deal breaker no. Nintendo fans care, prob not. Possibly keep older gamers from buying Nintendo..... i do think that is possible.

ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!?!?!?!?!?!??!!?

I can finally buy a 360!! That was the main reason why I never bought one was because of the annoying onscreen distraction. It was the main element holding me back.

Achievements are the worst "innovation" to ever happen to gaming. I remember playing an emotional part of a game on the 360 only to get a cheesy onscreen alert.
