Just Just my 3DS yesterday and last night after taking it out of sleep mode I had a small starch on the screen. Its not that annoying but its much easier to see in 3D and while it doesn't take away from the image is very noticeable depening on what color the screen is displaying.
So my question was if I were to send it into nintendo how long would it take to get back to me. Also would I be getting back the same system with all my miis/games/friendcode/friendslist. Or would it be reset to factory settings. asking as im thinking of sending it in and I'd rather do it now while I don't have anything important expect a friendcode and Zelda four swords.

Up to you, I have them on my screen protectors but if you work at it, they come off If it comes off, I heard if you put a cloth between the screens it stops happening
I'm in the same bogus boat as you, I plan on calling Nintendo and sending mine back at the end of October or super early November since i wan't to play Gargoyles Quest for this Halloween. I've royally messed up my headphone jack input causing the left ear phone to cut out completely, plus now theres some slight static coming from the left ear phone as well.
Also have a slight sound issue. On any of the ranking charts in the eshop i get a static popping sound. Im guessing thats a eshop problem as I only see on that part of the eshop.
Also a little scared to send it in as i hear stories of getting it back with a wobbly top screen. If i were to send it out hopefully I'd get it back just in time for when Super Mario 3D Land is released...I'd be crushed if i didn't. But I also don't want to experience anymore games having to constantly worry if the sound is going to cut out if i move the 3DS while gaming...Talk about a bogus billy. lol

I think its like that with all 3DSs, the edge of the touch screen leaving a mark/scratch-like...smudge, thing on the upper screen. But yeah mine comes right off with a simple wipe. (they need to fix that though, its annoying)

Keep it PG-13-ish.
That's the problem with the 3DS, raised touch screen for the lose! But Ninty will most likely give you a new one if it's badly damaged, I think they just swap any information over to the new one and send it back.
But most smudges appear to look like scratches, so just give it a simple wipe with one of those clothes you sually get with glass (spectacles) cases. It's soft enough so it won't leave any smudges or traces or anything.
I think I need to send mine in, because my right hand speaker is really quiet and I have two lines where my touch screen has been touching the upper screen (they don't call it a touch screen for nothing), you can't see them until it's in direct sunlight, so that's not really a problem. But Ninty should've fixed this issue before it was released, it's really annoying.
I used the 360 rubber feet solution for mine. My touch screen left permanent scratches on the 3D screen so I sent it to Nintendo. They replaced the shell so the scratch was gone and the rubber things on the system were slightly extended...but the problem still persisted. I just took two rubber feet from the bottom of my 360 and stuck them to the top inside corners of the 3DS next to its own rubber pieces. The problem in non-existent now and I couldn't be happier

Nice Tip. Just took the rubbers off my 360. works fine. Still going to send the system within two weeks too get the screen repaired.
should be there in back within 3 days to a week.

I sent mine to fix the screen on Friday, August 12, it arrived at the repair facility the next Thursday (the 18th), and got it back a week later, so about two weeks for me. A few things about the repair process you should know/do: 1. The repair facility mine went to is located in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, and I live in suburban Chicago, so how long the process takes really depends on where you live. 2. If a scratched screen is your only problem, you should receive your original 3DS back with all your data (Miis, Friend List, Downloads, etc.) back unless they f*** up really badly and have to factory reset your 3DS. 3. You'll be instructed to remove everything you have in/with your 3DS before sending it in, including the SD card, Game Cards, your stylus, etc. Make you sure to do that.
Well, that's all I got. If you really feel you need to send it in, just be sure to follow those things and read the instructions you're e-mailed carefully.
I sent mine in and they just gave me a new one instead of raising the rubber things cause the scratches are back (it is worth mentioning I had other problems). They tried to transfer my data but failed epically, literally wiping out every single one of my downloads.

Surely they gave you some sort of compensation? Like, y'know, letting you download them all again for free? :3
That's weird though, how can you fail to transfer the data over? I'd be asking them why they can't transfer data on their own console, surely they should be able to do that!
Well you should have taken out the SD card before you sent it in, and if you wanted to, you could've transfered the data to said card. And Nintendo is usually the company that cares more about customers, so they should offer some compensation.
I just sent my 3ds to have the top screen replaced because of scratches. It took about a week for it to come home. Shipped it Monday, Oct 10; it was received on Wednesday, Oct 12. My 3DS tells me it was turned on for 1 min just before noon on Wednesday. The repair facility sent it out by UPS on Thursday the 13th and it arrived at my door today, Tuesday, Oct 18th.
I live in Indiana and Nintendo's repair facility was United Radio, Inc. in New York, so that sort of timeline may be different for those who have to send out to the west coast (or obviously Europe). All my data saved in system memory was intact and I got my original 3DS back complete with pressed in surface on the HOME "button", but oddly the date was reset to Jan. 1, 2011.
