lolno. The only way Nintendo would ever stop making handhelds would be if the smartphone markets gets so huge to the point where it absorbs everything. However, even that has a slim chance of happening, as Nintendo would still be able to zoom in on those who are too young to get a phone, or just want a gaming device.
Even then, Nintendo would just make a gaming phone themselves. Nintendo will never give up. Even in their dying days (The Gamecube), they persisted into making the Wii. Now look at them.

@ Toonlink97 The Gamecube was hardly Nintendo's (Dying days) Did you even own one? I think the Gamecube was better than N64. That's where they really screwed up. Only about 15 games on N64 were must haves. Most of them first party. They saw the error of their ways and they've only got better since then. I can't wait for the day When Sony and Microsoft must bow to the almighty power of Nintendo. One day they will dominate again. That day is coming. Wait and see.

Do you even know what I'm referring to? I'm referring to sales. The Gamecube lived twice as long as the Dreamcast and sold barely twice as much as it. The Gamecube was in the period of time the PS2 was king. Even the Xbox did better than the Gamecube.
That day is here already. Nintendo are dominating, and you can see... er.... let's just say "tributes" to the Wii with Microsoft and Sony's motion control things coming out soon.
I owned a Gamecube, and loved it far more than the N64. It's still the lowest selling Nintendo home console system to date, however, and it could've meant that Nintendo would back out of the console business. Luckily, they didn't.

I didn't realize Gamecube's sales were the worst of any Nintendo system. Nintendo was still doing well enough to survive. They were never in any danger of backing out of the console business. If that happened it would be the end of gaming as we know it. Sales aren't everything you know. Alot of the people who chose PS2 over Gamecube in that era were probably just tired of the kiddy image of Nintendo and wanted violence in their games. I bought a PS2 for my m rated games. My Gamecube was there for my longtime faithfullness to the company and for Zelda, Mario and Metroid.

As long as there are mature knowledgeable gamers who commute to and from work and would rather play full, fun games with actual buttons than play mini-games on their i-devices, there will always be a market for a Nintendo handheld.
Nintendo did what the Dreamcast did as well (for the time it was available, I guess). Even though Nintendo was not literally dying, had they continued what they were doing, and if Sony had made the right choices with the PSP, they could've very well fallen into being a third party developer by now. They did the stuff with the Wii though, and continued their dominance in the portable market. That's what really kept them from falling like Sega did.
But as said earlier, Nintendo will fight until the very end, until it has no money left. It did so like 40 years ago, when its stocks were worth like 60 yen.

That's because you did it wrong the first time. Everyone, hey everyone, TBD is officially responsible for the 64DD and she also killed Earthbound forevarz!!!!!
it's true, it's true... i just love the squeals of angry fans, they're music to my ears. >:3
that said, you seem to forget that you were the one responsible for the Virtual Boy during your own reign of terror... D:
I bought Nintendo once! I was the one who forced the CD-i Zelda into the gaming world!
Oh yeah, I bought Nintendo once too. I was the one who canceled the Super Nintendo CD contract with Sony and caused the Playstation! I'M SORRY! PLEASE DON'T HURT ME! (Hands over face)
I invented the Virtual Boy
So, you're the one who sold the Virtual Boy to Panda, who mass marketed it and caused red-monochrome 3D-ish terror across the planet! How dare you, you EVIL BIRD FREAK!!
EDIT: Crap, you changed your avatar. I'll think of a new insult later.
I'm pretty okay.

You do realize that not even the 3DS has been released.
Currently playing: 3DS: KI: Uprising Wii: Xenoblade Chronicles "Heh, heh... Thanks... You're nice. Umm... Can I ask... a question? Your friends... What kind of... people are they? I wonder... Do these people... think of you...as a friend?"
I read a site saying that it will be the last cartridge handheld as in every game will now be simply downloadable, like leagal piriting.
What, downloadable does not mean legal pirating. It just means they choose to distribute games over the internet rather than through brick-and-mortar stores. Look at Steam, Impulse, WiiWare, VC and DSiWare for a better idea of what that means.
Legal pirating, never. Nintendo and developers still need to make money to survive you know.
Anyway, that's just rumour-mongering. There's no saying whether the next Nintendo handheld will have cartridges, blu-ray or beams the game directly to your mind.
