Hi guys thanks for help in advance. So recently I have begun to notice a change my launch day 3DS the battery is not hold its charge very well any more. I can barely get two hours out of it with brightness at three WITH power savers mode on, wireless on, and sound about the half way point. So to some the choice of getting the $15 battery might seem the logical way to go however my 3DS i a bit beat up so here are the reasons why I might want to upgrade. 1. My 3DS is looking a bit beat and has a few hairline scratches (that don't affect the 3D effect...yet). 2. My D-pad feels awful and really don't want to pay to fix it. 3. My Birthday is the day before Black Friday this year and I hop Nintendo might put out an awesome bundle (with Layton and/or Sticker Star would be nice). 4. The Xl has a better battery life : P. Now here is why I don't want to upgrade. 1. There isn't one in straight black (going all black with modern handhelds since 2006). 2. It is a difference in price of about $185 between the new handheld and the battery. 3.I promised I wouldn't get and XL when it launched a few months ago.
So if anyone can help me with my situation it is very much appreciated.

I had a launch-day 3DS and bought the XL the day it was released. Battery power is significantly better. I play mostly with headphones and brightness on 3, and I get about 5.5 to six hours with the 3D on max and WiFi mostly off. I would say I'm getting 90 extra minutes per charge. The Home and shoulder buttons are much better. The only drawback for me is that I like carrying it in my pant pockets, and it's a little heavy. I can't tell you what to do, but I can say this: If my XL got stolen, I'd go buy another rather than using the regular 3DS that's sitting in my desk drawer.

I still have my original black small 3DS and I laugh everytime I open it up and turn it on so my daughter can play around with it. So tiny compared to my silver XL I can never go back to using the original colour doesn't really matter because when you look at the screens all you see is the black inner.

you can upgrade your 3DS' battery without having to buy a 3DS XL. The difference is much more noticable..

Here a maybe useful link about battery life. Afterwards u can decide which handheld to get
I find the idea cool. But i cant replicate that marathon as i dont own soooo many handhelds lol.

i personally use the Nico powergrip with my old 3ds. And im happy with the battery life now. Seems in the video is even a more stronger special battery pack for the 3ds. But always look if u have to open the 3ds case or else u loose warranty. With nico powergrip u click it on = valid warranty
3ds + special battery pack beats an classic 3ds Xl.
You have to keep in mind there are no CCPs nor battery packs out yet for 3ds XL. Plus throwing out 200 bucks just for more battery life seems very daring.

ps: i like the british accent in the video

i got a day 1 3ds and its was porly built. It had all the day 1 flaws/bugs. Screen lines. Extreamly cranky (barely useable) d-pad, 5 dead pixels. Now i have updated to a Silver-black 3DS XL and its better in every way.

Probably get the 3rd-party battery pack, I've only heard good things about it and the proposition is much more economical.

Nyko Power Grip is the way to go imo. Tons of charge, so unless you've been playing your 3DS all day with everything on that could drain the battery (3D effect, Screen Brightness of 5, Wireless on and connected to a WiFi hotspot, Power Saving Mode Off), you shouldn't have to worry about the battery dying. You can pick them up for about $30 at any Best Buy, and unlike replacing your 3DS's battery with a 3rd party one, your warranty won't be voided.

I brought a the original 3DS when it came out,and I had to charge it between 2-3 times a week.
But now I don't use it that much cause I got the XL.

And I charge the 3DS XL only once a week, which is absolutely brilliant.
