Topic: 3DS XL Colors and Regions, what is the logic???

I can't figure why Nintendo has decided to offer 3DS XL in different colors, by region? I love that there are four different colors to start with. However, why split them up by country released in? It would seem smarter to me, to produce the 3DS XL in equal amounts in each color. Then make all four colors available in Japan, United States, and Europe. After all that, I am set on getting a red one anyway

Different markets are different. Japan =/= US =/= Europe

Same reason they have a white 3DS in Japan and not here in NA. I guess different colors are better sellers in different regions.

There is no logic in not having neutral colors (silver/black) at launch.

It surprises me how much the 3DS looks better colored but the XL looks better in Black or Silver.

thats silver 3DS not coming to NA is the biggest shame in my opinion

I can't see Nintendo being able to say "white" is going to be popular in Japan. While silver should be released in Europe only. And in the US. Red and Blue are going to be the popular colors, lol!!! I do think the neutral colors like silver and black should have been made available in all regions. And yes Silver seems like it should be available in the US. I can see them making white exclusive and only in Japan, after all it is Nintendo in Japan!

Obviously White and Red in Japan is a reference to the colors of the flag.

Might be the same with America, but they lack a white, or silver, so I'm probably missing something there.

And Blue/Red/Silver in Europe is a reference to Great Britain's flag.

It's really obvious with Japan's colors.

Very interesting. From the colors I've seen, I like the bright ones best. Red and Blue just look fun!

If anyone is up in arms about colours just buy a silver or gold marker or some professional paints and let your creativity run wild

No thanks I'm not spending $200 in order to deface it with paint!? I'm not up in arms about the color choices for the 3DS XL. I just think all colors should be available to choose from in each region. Call it wishful thinking

It's marketing. You could draw some parallels between this and the fact that game covers often change depending on the country. Different cultures/societies get attracted to different things.

But I agree that it's annoying.. I would love to have the white one available here in EU. It's really weird to me that they're not offering any single colored model at all in neither EU nor US. I'll either wait for the white one or get the silver/black one myself.

Yes marketing is likely the reasoning here. If I was in another region besides the US, I'd probably go with a color not offered anywhere else (at least not now). So I'd get the silver in Europe, or the white in Japan. Fot the record, I like the black face of the 3DS XL, in red, blue, and silver models. The color is only needed as an outside cosmetic. It would distract from gameplay if it bordered the screens and controls.

I'm not too annoyed by the colour choices between regions as they usually release the ones I want but I do find it annoying when a console launches in one or two colours like white or black (Wii/DSi) and then a year or so later start releasing the good colours like red, blue, etc. Why can't consoles just release in a range of colours at launch? I can't wait long periods of time to buy a console just for the colour I want. The 3DS XL has gotten it right by at least releasing red, blue and silver at launch but I wish it was the same colour all the way through the system. I don't buy a red console to stare at the black inside 95% of the time!

I am not that picky when it comes to color on new consoles. I just pick my favorite from what is available. Since I'm in the US I am going with the red. I am sure a better color will come along, but I am not one to wait six months to get it.

Different regions can choose.

For example, US is the only region with Purple, Japan is the only one with Dark Blue, and Hong Kong is the only one with Light Blue and Bright Pink.

Same with the 3DS XL launch colors I guess.

Exactly. Who wants a huge red or blue kid-looking 3ds xl when you can have a sexy more sophisticated color scheme instead? IT's mostly us older folks who have problems seeing anyways lol.. So will the silver EVER be available in the U.S.?

Its inevitable the colors in Japan will make its way accross this pitiful world. Be patient. And don't cry over silly colors.

Oh, trust me. I'm not crying. I'll be getting a red one probably! I don't think I can wait for an unforeseeable event to take place before upgrading.

Eh, they do this every so often. When the DSi launched back in 2009, NA got black and blue, while the rest of the world got black and white. After a few months, each region released their missing color (as well as a pink one if memory serves). I won't be at all surprised if the same happens here, perhaps as a Black Friday release for us in the NA (not sure if Europe also enjoys/endures Black Friday or not).
