Topic: 3DS XL Case Chat

So, I spent a numerous amount of hours browsing the web(/eBay) looking for a decent quality, visually appealing case for my XL.

It's currently kept in a sort of carry bag, whilst being wrapped in polystyrene. So it's probably the safest any console has ever been. But I'd like something better looking.

I found a couple that drew my attention; they were a Zelda case, and an aluminium shell.

First off, the Zelda case is a massive NO - because I refuse to spend £18 on a case.
The aluminium one (which I'll edit in a link to) looks the part, but I'm worried it'll scratch the console. Does anyone else have any experience with these cases?

Finally, are there any cases you would recommend?

Budget: £10

Thanks in advance,
Michael.

Well, you see, I was after something a bit 'fancier'. And whilst a case like that would keep it safe - the one I use right now does that, and more.

Thanks for your suggestion though.

I usually use Crystal Case if that's to your liking. ^^;; it's usually cheap as well.

I agree with darkfenrir a crystal case is really good! You just have to clip it in easy!

Couple of things regarding the crystal cases:

1. They aren't particularly nice.
2. There's always the chance that it will scratch the console itself.

Look good, cheap, and protect well?

Pick two of those three or you will never be happy.

Lol, yeah you're probably right.
I'm torn between two options now(: )

  • The cheaper aluminium case at £4ish, or
  • A leather flip-case at £14.

Potentially damaging, but cheap? Or everything I need, but quite expensive?

....decisions, decisions....

I just use a Nintendo pouch... slip the 3DS inside, pull the strands on the top to keep it in place, job done. It's not great, but it gets the job done.

If you really want something snazzy, try this:

1) Buy a 3DS XL decal print, there's a lot of options out there.

2) Buy a clear crystal case

3) Put the decal on the console, snap the crystal case on top (it won't damage the 3DS XL), done.

You know, I was actually considering buying a skin/decal. I found a pretty awesome Skyward Sword one for £4.99 - and I'm just waiting on a reply from the seller and I'll buy it.
As I've said though - I'm uncomfortable with using a hard plastic case on ANY of my tech.

Can any of you vouch for the hard plastic one? And would i be able to customise it with some padding, if need be?

Thanks v.much folks for all your help/suggestions. They are truly appreciated.

Make sure it's not a glue kind of adhesive, because that'll ruin the paint job. Decalgirl, I think it's called, uses a special kind of adhesive that doesn't leave any residue on the console if you peel it offer.

There's also silicon cases that cover your entire console. I bought one for my original 3DS and it worked pretty well. But it was prone to collecting dust and hair... :/

I have the hard plastic one and I wonder how it can scratch your 3DS unless you keep removing and putting it back. And it's nice to be able to see the real thing instead of you know, a pouch or something. I bought Crystal Case since DS Lite and never regretted it.

And there's no scratch on my 3DS from what I see, only on the case itself, which mean it's doing its job of protecting the 3DS

Ok, you've sold me.
I'll get a crystal case, and use it in partnership with my SS skin.
The only problem now, is waiting for the skin to arrive (from California!).

Whilst were waiting for that - does anyone have any pictures of their 3DS' with a crystal/skin combo?

Thanks for doing that.
It's good to see what it looks like IRL - as opposed to some pose shot.

I'll wait for my decal to arrive and I'll buy a crystal case.

(I'm new to these forums, so don't know if you like to close threads once the OP has been answered; or, if you like it left open for further discussion. So I'll leave it open and let the mods decide. )

A rubber case would be better (not entirely silicon made). I looked at cases in Walmart (NErf ones) and they look outrageously horrible. A crystal case would seem very fragile and what if the hinges break or snap?

*Im looking for a 3DS XL case too, anyone recommends?

p.s if you're getting a crystal case, you should also get skins for your 3DS XL

Well, I bought a Skyward sword skin for my XL, and if you put a crystal case on top of that - it means the console is protected AND you can still see the skin.

The best case I've seen so far, was a leather flip (and play) case at £14 (on eBay).
If this crystal case idea doesn't suit, I'll just go straight ahead and get one of those.

(If you want a link, just say. )

@Coldfirex44 It's quite sturdy (although I never tried anything with them, they are quite expensive once I converted them to my currency), and it's only the thinner parts that break is the very thin one, but there's nothing that thin on 3DS' crystal case.

@Link-XL and everyone who is getting crystal case, you better wipe your 3DS well before putting the case, since you won't want any kind of dust or something get stuck between, and then you won't need to worry about fingerprints outside of your 3DS! ^^
