I have seen various reports of this on other websites and it seems to be a common problem. I feel a lot better now that I know that I'm not the only one. Hopefully Nintendo is aware of the problem and fixes it in the next update.

I hope this is fixed by the time I get my copy of Zelda: OoT 3D. I know for sure that I'll be charging my 3DS a LOT while making my way through the game and I don't want to be sitting there waiting for it to fully charge in it's cradle without being sure if it's finished or not. It's a strange habit of mine to wait until something is fully charged before using it, sadly. :/

I wonder what Nintendo were trying to do when this error came about. If the indicator is glitching on us, could it not be possible that Nintendo was tinkering with power management settings to cause this?

I think I fixed it, all I had to do was use my 3DS until it eventually shut itself off and then charged it. The light turned off after about four hours.

Try what Mars said a couple of posts ago. Turn the 3DS on and off and replug it. After a short while, the light will go off.

okay i think i have the same problem. it's charging for 5 hours now or even a bit longer.

just plugged out the power supply and turned it on. then put charger back in and the light is on again.
system is cold so i dont think it is actually loading.
EDIT:
okay after a minute the light went off and the battery is full now. hm kinda weird

is it bad to stop charging before the battery is full?

Mine is actually working now, perhaps this happens during the first charge only? Like others have pointed out, it's probably just a glitch from the update.

Yep it's happening to me, too. Hopefully there will be an update soon to fix it.

Well, I think it might help if you had it on charge while on, for a bit...I didn't fully charge mine, ran out of the house. Then I put it on charge last night, I went to bed with it on charge. I got up, the charging LED was off. O.o

Seen this post on 3DS forums

http://3dsforums.com/nintendo-3ds-3/3ds-damage-trouble-help-t...

its the #207 post by Tonycorleone (on page 21 of the thread) - apparently Nintendo know about the problem, will be patched within the month, and in the meantime the console cannot over charge.

I'm not sure about the overcharging bit, could always try ringing to verify.

I seem to be playing totally different from all of you, ie I play with the charger plugged into the mains & into back of console, so console always charged, it doesn't get warm.
I've never used the cradle (I've a curious Siamese that would defintely investigate, she watches me play Ndogs+cats, not amused)
I do go out with 3DS, but have never gone down to the red light.
At home I can see I am tied down by the wire, and I'm not sure if it will mean my battery will need to be replaced sooner.
I hope I'm not damaging the 3DS somehow by playing this way?

  • well as its not getting warm & Nintendo seem to be saying the console cannot be overcharged, I presume I'm not.

I just charged my 3DS for about 3 hours and the light is already off. Maybe that last update fixed it.
The average charge time was only about 3 hours before. The notification message sent from Nintendo did say it would improve stability and overall performance of the system as well as fix the Ridge racer glitch.

A few other people are now saying the charging issue is resolved. Guess the update fixed that too!

I still have the charge light problem after the update that was supposed to fix it.

My 3DS charged fine when I got it and after the first update. The eShop update caused the charge light to stay on when the 3DS was plugged in to the charger when it was already fully charged. I applied the update that was supposed to fix the charge light issue this evening and it hasn't fixed it. My 3DS is clearly fully charged but the charge stays on. Switching the 3DS on and off or unplugging it and plugging it in again doesn't fix it.

Anyone else having a problem after the latest update?

Nintendo never said that the update was going to fix that.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

No, but I've read comments from 3DS owners in various forums that this update fixed their charge light problem, so it seems like it's a known issue for Nintendo. The update just mentions system stability and various fixes. Anyway, it seems it's fixed for me too! I unplugged the 3DS, switched it on then plugged in the charger again and after a few seconds the light went out. Then I unplugged, switched off the 3DS and plugged the charger in again. The light came on and went out after a few seconds. So it seems to be fixed now. Just took a while for the fix to "take". Weird.

I experienced the same issue last night. The 3DS will still charge to full capacity in 3 - 4 hours, but the light remains on. However, I discovered that if you remove the 3DS from the charger, switch the power on then back off, and place it back on the charger the light will turn off. Regardless, these 3DS hiccups/issues are starting to become overwhelming, especially with the PS Vita coming out soon. If things don't change (for the better) soon, I might trade my 3DS for a PS Vita.
