Topic: 3DS won't stop charging!

Hey guys. So I plugged in my 3DS about 12 hours ago and the orange light is still on! The battery wad very low (blinking red) but I don't think it should be doing this. It is the third time that it won't stop charging. I don't know what to do! Have you guys experienced this problem?

Could be something wrong with the battery or you're using it too much or for too long. Also, try to refain from using it while it's charging.

All I can think is that it's the battery, if you're concerned about it just contact Nintendo.

It takes two hours to charge. Once that time has passed, take it off

is it still on while it's charging? it'll take longer to charge if it's still on as opposed to turned off entirely.

If all else fails, you can buy a replacement for $15 from Nintendo. Details in your user manual. :3

i actually just had this problem for the first time too. it had been on there for about 5 hours and still wasn't done... hope it's not something the update caused.

I've heard other people complaining the update has caused this problem on other boards.

Wait...you're not suppose to use a device when it charges? I use my phone, and all my other recharble stuff, while it charges! What happens if you use it while it charges o_O

I actually noticed that myself the last time I charged. It took over 5 hours. I was like... Dang shouldn't it be charged by now?
If it takes a real long time again I may start to worry.

Nothing detrimental, it just takes longer to charge.
You shouldn't just play and charge constantly, though. Once it's fully charged, you should unplug the lead and let the battery run down until it gets to the red (ideally the blinking red), and only then put it on charge again.

@13 I thought that that was only with Lithium-Ion batteries...

I have the same problem, Seen a lot of other people on other forums with same issue.
Must be related to update as it happened for the first time after update. Other people experienced the same

Using a phone or something while it's charging might be alright, but I found my 3DS to get quite hot when it's in use while it's still charging. Even the operation manual tells you to refrain from over using it whil it's charging.

Also, I think the battery can bleed, or leak, when the 3DS is being charged while still in use.

EDIT: I don't think it's directly linked to the update either, I still haven't come across this problem, however, saying that, it only started popping up after the update. But this could be due to pretty much anything... don't forget, it was a pretty big update and getting loaded with all this might've done something to the console.

It can't. It'll only do that if it overcharges.
Also, the heat is just caused by the battery charging; the transfer of electricity creates heat. It would get warm (it's not really what you'd call hot) when charging even if you're not using it.

Nothing bad happens, but the manual does say that the recharge light might not go off when fully charged if you play while charging. If you frequently use your 3DS while it is charging that would probably be the cause of your original issue.
