Imagine how amazing it would be! Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket, Wonderswan, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, Virtual Boy, more Game and Watch titles! That'd be so cool!

What games would you like to see on there? What would you like the pricing to be? Features? I'd like to see both Golden Suns on there, the original Pokemon Gold/Silver, Pokemon Red/Blue, Advance Wars, Teleroboxer, Oracle of Ages, Minish Cap, wireless game linking, and a feature for Gameboy games similar to the Super Gameboy (play them in color with the option for a screen to be around it). That'd be great!

For pricing, I think something similar to this would be great:

Game and Watch games - $2
Gameboy (not color) - $4
Gameboy Color - $5
Gameboy Advance - $8
Virtual Boy - $7
Neo Geo Pocket - $6
Neo Geo Pocket Color - $7
Wonderswan (original) - $6
Wonderswan Color - $7
Game Gear - $6

Imagine having all those retro handhelds on one, official handheld. It'd be amazing.

There is already another thread with the exact same title I think.

I quite like your console choices and prices. However, I feel that the VB games should be 5, and the Gameboy (not color) should be the same as GBC, since they are technically the same thing.

I dunno if they'll do this, though.

The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.

Toonlink97

It'd be awesome if they did. They're trying to redo their online system with the 3DS, aren't they? This would be a nice thing to add, as it's practically essential if they're going to do such a thing.

@Aviator: Really? Oh crap, sorry.

Nah, this is Nintendo, the same company that charges 1 dollar extra for "imports". They're likely to charge differently between color titles and normal ones.

I hope this does happen. If it does, I'd be most looking forward to the mario/wario land games. Mother 3 would be the game I'd most be looking forward to but nintendo probably won't release it if there is a virtual handheld.

Yasume

I'd probably buy every game from the service that scores a 6/7 or higher. I'm especially looking forward to play GB/C and GBA games on the 3DS, but those other handhelds you listed seem to have a nice library of games too.

I think those prices are a bit unrealistic.

G&W - $2
GameBoy/Color - $5
Virtual Boy - $8
Game Gear - $8
Neo Geo Pocket Color - $10
GBA - $10-15

Needless to say, I'd be all over a VH service. :3

I applied the pricing to its power or rarity. Considering the Neo Geo Pocket is a device near the Gameboy's power, I thought it would be nice at 6 dollars, with color titles at 7 (this is due to the Neo Geo Pocket''s limited approach in the US) while the Wonderswan would be "import" stuff so it would have pricing near the Neo Geo Pocket's price. As for Gameboy Advance titles, I think your pricing is very unrealistic. GBA = SNES in power and type of games, so they would be $8 each.

My guesses of what prices would be if 3DS had Virtual Handheld

Game Boy - 400 points
Game Boy Color - 500 points
Gameboy Advance - 800 points or 900 points
Neo Geo Pocket - 400 points
Neo Geo Pocket Color - 500 points
Game Gear - 500 points (same as Sega Master System on Wii)
Wonderswan - 400 points (it would be probably be Japan only though)
Wonderswan Color - 500 points (it would be probably be Japan only though)

Game & Watch games wouldn't be on VH because they can't actually be emulated, plus, they're already on DSiware. Also, I don't think it would have Virtual Boy either.

Who says the titles have to be emulated? The DSi does the ports well, and for a rather cheap price. Just because they're not emulated doesn't necessarily mean they can't be on a VH.

Virtual Boy would show off the 3DS's 3D in a rather unique way, as it would show the 3D a portable from 15 years ago intended to.

I actually haven't thought of that, Maybe they would put on Virtual Boy if VH happens.

Um, no. The GBA is more powerful than the SNES. The graphical capabilities are more advanced, and I'm 99% sure the cartridges were bigger. (not physically, of course, lol)

Here are a few visual comparisons:

Super Metroid vs. Metroid: Zero Mission

Zelda: A Link to the Past vs. Zelda: Minish Cap

I think - should they ever launch such a service - Nintendo would keep the prices along the same vein as those for the VC. GB/GBC was in the NES/SNES era [500/800 points], and the GBA was in the very late N64 [1000 points] and GCN [predictably 1500 points] era. I do think 1500 points for a GBA game would be a stretch, though, haha.

My guess is that any Game & Watch titles released in the 3DS Shop would be 3DSWare (unless they have a DSiWare section in the 3DS Shop, in which case it would likely be DSiWare), but the non-Nintendo handhelds would be something like:

-Game Gear: 500 3DS Points
-Neo Geo Pocket: 600 3DS Points
-Neo Geo Pocket Color: 700 3DS Points
-Atari Lynx (if it makes it to the service at all that is): no more than 500 3DS Points
-TurboExpress: 500/600 3DS Points
-Pokemon Mini: 100 3DS Points (Hey, stranger things have happened )

As for Game Boy series titles...I think Nintendo's already slipped-up with the price point for those. I don't know who else remembers this story from the days of the VH for DSi rumours, but at some DSi presentations in the US, certain Nintendo staff members said that Game Boy (Color) and Game Boy Advance games would be available in the DSi Shop for 500 DSi Points for GB(C) and 800 Points for GBA, and I still believe that this would be the norm for all Game Boy series titles released in all five Nintendo 3DS Shop regions. Also, I think that Nintendo DS Legacy titles would be something like 3000 3DS Points for a Touch! Generations title and 4000 3DS Points for a full-price title.

And, for the ump-million, ump-hundred-and-umpty-ump-thousand, ump-hundred-and-umpteenth time, I really want to play Super Mario Land 2 again!

The GBA had a 32 bit processor, but not much was used to take advantage of it. The games are very SNES-y, (Minish Cap mirroring A Link To The Past with different gameplay elements, Fusion mirroring Super Metroid, Golden Sun mirroring SNES RPG's, several ports/remakes of NES and SNES titles). The resolution of the GBA was far less than the SNES, and looked slightly inferior due to those reasons. As handhelds often lag a generation or two behind (The NES and the GB were similar in displaying their games, though the GB had an inferior Z80 GPU and the GB came out during the NES's life span).

The GB/C had a VERY long lifespan. It is the reason why Nintendo handhelds are now 2 generations behind rather than 1. The pricing will not be anywhere similar to the Wii's in date.

The Virtual Boy was 3D mainly because both eyes saw a slightly different image through the "binoculars". The 3DS is capable of showing two images at the same time without the need for glasses, so technically, Virtual Boy could be emulated in its intended usage: 3D and virtual reality. Without the goggles.

Games for handhelds were always cheaper than games for consoles. It would be a total rip-off if they are going to price the GBA games for 1000 points.

I disagree what you said about the resolution, haha. And of course the games were similar, it's a 2D system. 2D didn't stop them from pricing Neo Geo games at 900 points, and all of those games look worse than what the GBA has to offer. Also, as I said before, the GBA games are bigger in size than an SNES game, which I think could factor into the price.

It's not necessarily what's fair, it's what Nintendo thinks they can charge for it. They're not going to shy away from charging a couple of extra bucks if they can do it. GBA's the most powerful system that could be on the service - like the N64 - and that's why I think it'll get the premium price. :3
