At Gamestop, you can trade-in your DSi for $100 off a 3DS. However, can you transfer your DSi data to 3DS before trading it in?

Yes you can before trading it in. Afterwards the data will be permanently removed from the system

You could ask the gamestop people. They should say it is ok. As long as they have internet it should work.

I dont know most Gamestop employees will say anything to you just to get your business.

Well maybe but all the gamestops by me the employees are mostly gamers. So if you ask them since you are buying the new systems they should say ok.

Just ask before you trade it in. The reset the data anyhow, so it's not like your DSiware purchases have any value to them. If they say no, try a different Gamestop.

@hidividedby5: Depends on whether that Gamestop has Wi-Fi available also and how many DSiWare titles you have. You have to remember, the 3DS and DSi need to communicate with each other and the internet before transferring a license and it does this with every individual piece of DSiWare on your system.

Provided that there's accessible Wi-Fi and if it's only a handful, I don't see how it could be that bad, but if you had as many titles as I did, it could take hours to transfer everything and you'd likely need to have both your 3DS and DSi on their wall charger because the download stops when either system drops too far in battery life!

The easiest solution would be to explain that you want to pay for the 3DS in full to the Gamestop clerk/manager, go home, transfer all of your data from your DSi, then bring it back and return/rebuy your purchase, but trade in your DSi towards the repurchase for the promo price. You shouldn't have a hassle when doing that.

What is the meaning of life? That's so easy, the answer is TETRIS.
