Do I have to have my old 3ds to transfer my games and save data? I went through the process over the phone with them, and the first person told me that I could transfer it via computer. Then, my games didn't show up, so I called back. I get an email saying to call them with my ticket number and they told me that I need the original 3ds in operating order. Now I have to download my old games and the save data is lost/unreadable/unretrieveable. Is this true?

@rockodoodle You can backup save data and other data stored on the SD card to PC, but you can't just backup games to PC. To get the games from one device to another you need to system transfer.

Have you still got a copy of the SD card data on your PC?

Right now in my head, it's all horses, horses, horses, food, and horses.

@gcunit Yeah, I followed the procedure just like they said. Even used the suggested formatting tool. The first guy I talked to said not to freak out if it doesn't transfer, just try it again, so I did and it still didn't work.

Yeah, you do, even if you use the computer. There's a guide of transfering data from 3DS to the New 3DS on Nintendo's website. You also need working internet for the process.

You need to click some options in the O3DS before the new 3DS can recognize the data in the SD card.
