Well, I certainly noticed the decrease in buy-worthy DS games year on year. I went from buying 5-10 a year to just 1-2 a year...

So...if you don't like a game it is automatically shovelware? I can guarantee you that there has always been more than two good DS games a year and just because they do not interest you does not make them bad.

That's because like any gamer, I do not buy every good game that comes out. Good games are harder to find later in the DS cycle, not because there's necessarily fewer of them, but that there's an increased quantity of other games to sift through. I was also trying to base my definition of shovelware to games that are ignored by reviewers, irregardless of how I feel about them. I for one like my fair share of low scoring games, but games with no reviews directly indicate they are not worth my time. I like nintendolife because they invest in reviewing games that most sites ignore, which gives tribute to the developers, and assists us gamers by informing us of otherwise missed gems.

What a load of crap. I didn't get anywhere near that many games for the DS (I have ~15 since early '06) but I do have 30 games on the Wii brought since late 2006 which puts it in the 5-10 games/year range and certainty less in the last couple of years. There is no such difficulty in having to "sift through" other games to find that many even with the shovelware. There are plenty of good games out there and there are always a couple on that "maybe" list in my head. I don't have to pass a challenge to view a game review or pick up a game from the shelf in the shop, the limit is how much money I'm willing to spend and whether I've finished the last one yet.

This idea that shovelware makes it difficult for a consumer who is looking at review sites for games is ridiculous. Your redefining of shovelware to mean "obscure" is nothing more than an attempt to avoid the fact that your claim is ridiculous.

Well you picked up on the inconsistency of my argument and my purchasing history. My excuse for buying less games over time include more factors than game availability or cash on hand. I'm really trying appeal to the state of affairs that everyone knows unanimously, that shovelware is bad and has negatively influenced my perception and respect for new DS software over time. Of course there are also strong arguments for the Wii. To be frank, I never purchased a Wii until this year for the simple fact that it never exhibited an invesent worthy level. I have instead waited patiently, and have since picked up 20 Wii titles I've been watching for years. I have faith the 3DS will earn more of my respect, which is why I purchased it as an ambassador.

3DS shovelware is a subjective topic, but it's something I didnt think I had to argue myself.
