Most of my music these days is in AAC format anyway (Since I got my iPod) so I'm no longer fussed over the issue like I was when I first got my DSi but still, good to hear this.
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
It's not like this was ever a huge problem. It was so easy and free to convert on iTunes. I have an iPhone, so I don't care. I'd guess it's nice for kids who can only get one device... although it's still more expensive than most iPods.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
Yah, lack of .mp3 was a very, very minor inconvenience.... was blown way out of proportion but good to know 3DS can handle .mp3s.

Indeed, but it was a problem for people like me who don't want to use iTunes and don't have iPods - and there are plenty of us. All of my songs are in either MP3, FLAC or OGG formats and I refuse to convert them to AAC for a number of reasons. The fact that Nintendo is reintroducing MP3 playback for the 3DS is excellent. It's unfortunate that they patched it out of the DSi in the first place.
I guess it's nice of them to include the option, but honestly, people should be using AAC format if they want the best sound quality or want to be able to get by with using smaller file sizes to save space on the SD card.
@HM Well, if you prefer lossless audio file formats, you're not going to have the easiest time carrying music with you, no matter what.
@RionaaM People are talking about iTunes, because it's the most popular music player/organizer on computers, and in a couple of clicks you can convert all your .mp3s to .aac files. Only having .aac files be supported with the DSi should have really only been a major issue for the handful of people who didn't use iTunes (and even then it's pretty easy to find free converters online). .Aac files can have a higher sound quality with a smaller file size, so doing the conversion would be a good idea for those who wanted to load lots of music onto an SD card for their DSi anyways.
Why is everybody talking about iPods and iTunes? Does that device not support MP3 files? Then why is it called "MP3 player"?
Itunes can automatically convert to AAC format and I believe that AAC is the preferred format.
@Token: itunes is also free so there isn't much of a barrier of entry. I'm not fond of Apple(had bad experiences with their products and services) but I still use it.

Thanks for all of your responses, now I get it And for me, it would be better if the 3DS supported MP3, as I have all of my music library in that format, and I'll save myself a couple hours converting it.
Yeah, Nintendo's website says the same, even has some screenshots. Looks like they might have better playlist support on the 3DS, too. I used winamp for my AAC conversions, but I prefer MP3, so this is welcome news to me. Not having to convert ALL my music purchases from non-iTunes sites will save lots of time.
