Topic: 3DS Shutting Down By Itself

My sister claims that after leaving a game running on her 3DS it shuts down while at full power. She was in Streetpass Mii Plaza and when she started to close the screen it powered all the way off and she had to turn it back on. She says this has happened before but it varies where it boots back to. Has anyone else experienced this problem before, and if so what did you do?

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Oh, and when it came back on it was at full power.

My streetpass plaza is acting strange after the update. It would take 5-10 seconds longer to load things.

Did she perhaps accidentally grab the 3ds at an angle where the power button was inadvertently pressed? :3

Maybe her 3DS is haunted.

Why do people point to their wrists when asking for the time, but don't point to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?

This sounds like a glitch in the hardware. You need to contact Nintendo

Maybe the system was glitching, in a way that it would cause the system to turn off if the button was just tapped, and a ghost possesed her to press the power button, and made it so she didn't remember doing it, thus this thread.

Why do people insist on trying to be funny when someone's looking for help? Yeah, yeah a stupid jokes really gonna solve the problem here. Good god, do you people ever think about what it would be like if you were in someonelse's shoes? Would you seriously want people saying stuff like "your system is haunted" when your console craps out and you need help finding out why? I know this forum ain't tech support, but directing them to someone who can help, or even saying nothing and leaving it to the people who know more about the problem than you do, is better than wasting people's time with pointless banter. Seriously, it's not funny, it's not helpful, it's just rude.

I've sometimes had the screens stay black when trying to wake my system from sleep, but the power and wi-fi lights were still actually on. Sometimes it recovers after 10 seconds or so, and other times I've had to hold down the power button to power it down and restart.

you should contact nintendo about this. it would be best for her to call nintendo support. she may have to send it in to get fixed. hopefully it's still under warranty.

I'm not sure what would cause this, but maybe it's a technical issue that caused the 3DS to turn itself off when it should have gone into sleep mode? Either way, best to send it to Nintendo and get them to fix it, no one here will be able to answer you in too much detail.

Just remembering now: when I had to take apart my DS Lite to fix the D-pad and replace the casing, I couldn't get it to power on again at first because of a loose cable connection to the top screen. Maybe there's a problem with the cable connection to the top screen that's causing it to power off as she moves the hinge. If it's under warranty, I'd definitely contact Nintendo rather than trying to fix it yourself.

Finally, someone else who realizes how bad it feels.

My advise is to call NOA, they can help repair it

There's been more than one time my 3DS has stayed in sleep mode when I open it. But I think you'd know if this happens, as I usually have to hard power down my system(holding the power button for something like 10 seconds)

Well, why do people insist on being serious about everything? Being ultra serious can be just as annoying as someone who never takes anything seriously.
My theory was so stupid I doubted anybody would take it seriously, if I was in his shoes and got my response, I would probably be like "what?.." chuckle and show it to my sister and laugh about it, I don't know about his personallity though so I couldn't say what he would think about it, "Do unto other as you would have them do unto you" like I mentioned above, I wouldn't mind 'funny' responses really, different people have different ways of dealing with things.
Although, if you believe in ghosts I don't think it would be funny...

I've had something like this happen to me before, the light battery showing on the system was blue when I had it next to me while I was on my computer; closed and not in use, it just turned off, and when I turned it back on it started blinking red as it was out of power, never saw it happen again, and as @3Dash mentioned I've also had it strangly not come out of sleep mode, but I don't know if that has anything to do with this. Might as well call NoA, unless you really need to save minutes or something.

Probably. After the newest update, the music app on my 3DS needs to be tapped on at least 3 times to resume from the Home Menu. They should've tested it better.
