Remember that the 3DS has the save backup feature now. Most downloaded 3DS games have an option on the main menu to create backups onto the SD card. You can probably copy them onto a computer for safe keeping.

I like makin' games!
Future Pinball games!
Petit Computer games!!
and SmileBASIC games!
Waiting for Kirby Air Ride 2. One day, it will come. One day...

Another thing to remember is Club Nintendo, if your system was connected to CN before the wipe...then you'll have a chance of restoring those games via Nintendo. Anything you download is automatically registered on your CN account.

If they repaired it, they have his serial number, and therefore should be able to at least give him eShop credit

He already got his content back, now it's just a matter of finding and transfering his data on the SD card.

They finally got the NNID to link purchases, but only one 3DS at a time can use the account.

At the end if the day at least my games are there. @dkxcalibur did your SD card work?

I could have done a system transfer which would have aloud me to keep everything. However, I didn't feel like trying to explain this to the people at target. I exchanged my 3DS after about 4 days after buying it so I didn't have too much save data anyways though. The only part of my ordeal that I didn't like was the fact that it took 7 days to free up my NNID for me to use on my new system. Nintendo originally told me that everything could take place on the day in which I called about my problem, but it didn't work that way. Then they told me 2-4 days and it turned out to be 7.

At least you got your games. Happy gaming!

I had something like this happen to my DS. I sent it in, and the paperwork said they couldn't find the problem so they replaced the motherboard. When I got it back, it was wiped, but it's not like you can save anything onto a DS, right?

Check in for new sheets every Monday. There's lots of Fire Emblem arrangements coming.

This must be a pretty devastating thing to hear though, and it just drives home the point that Nintendo need dedicated account systems that aren't tied to a system. Not having any kind of safety for your games purchased online when you lose or damage your console is pretty terrible to be honest. :/

IIRC, DS systems linked to game cartridges to store FC information. If you switched to a new DS, your FC data would be wiped for the new console, so you could only play online with one console if you wanted to keep your FC list of friends.

I'm glad to hear your games were recovered at least. I've not found Nintendo's customer service helpful at the best of times. I phoned a few years back when my DS Lite developed that broken hinge problem, my DS was still in warranty. The guy I spoke to was rude and patronising, telling me I'd have to buy a new console or pay for it myself (Even though Nintendo had stated at the time they would fix them free of charge!). I replaced the case myself and didn't by anything from Nintendo for a few years.

I sent mine away in July and mine wasn't wiped, although had a problem with the screen so there was no need to touch the software.

This almost happened to me when my Wii U bricked. I feel so bad for you. Good thing I didn't purchase anything when my Wii U bricked. If you still have the sd card then it might be saved.

Except there is a safety net in most cases. Write down your serial number for later.

Same for me. When I first got my 3DS back in January, I bought myself a brand new copy of Project X Zone and it came with a NC card. However when I tried to register the game to my NC account, it said that my game had already been previously registered. I was confused and called their support and an Indian guy (Based on your accent) picked up the phone.

He told me that the game's NC card is only valid until December last year. Hence I cannot redeem it after the deadline. I was in total disbelief but shrugged my shoulders and moved on, heck its just 40 points. The next day when I went back the NC to look for rewards (wife wanted the 3DS card case), I noticed that the game has already been registered on my account. So yeah, that guy basically just BSed his way through.

Moral of the story, just email Nintendo if you have a problem. Their customer support is useless.

Hi Guys, been reading reading through your comments- thanks for the advice & support.

My new problem is I need to format my SD card in order for it to actually work with the 3DS. I have it backed up twice- just in case! Can anyone advise me how to format my SD card on a Macbook? I'm more a windows user so i have identified that i must click on 'Disk Utility' & click on the 'Erase' tab after selecting the SD Card. Where do i go from here?

Many thanks in advance!
