@blancobluesman is this your first Fire Emblem game?
Overall, I think Awakening is a good place to start and it is also the cheapest. Also since you said 3... Well, if you count Fates' versions separately then there are 3/4 (since Revelations requires Birthright or Conquest) games you can get right now with Echoes coming on the 19th.
Awakening can be a good game to start from since it has many Fire Emblem mechanics from other games including weapon durability along with a new pair up feature. (Which was also included in Fates, but tweaked to be more balanced. It is not in Echoes however since that is a remake) I also think the story is decent/good and enjoyed it quite a bit overall.
Fates has some similarities to and also changes from Awakening such as no weapon durability. It has 2 versions you can buy which are Birthright and Conquest. Birthright is easier and might be better for beginners, but there isn't as much variety in it compared to Conquest. Conquest is more like older Fire Emblem games and has more variety with its objectives, but it is also considerably more difficult. Lastly there is Revelations which is more in the middle in terms of difficulty and it also has some different objectives and some gimmicks for the maps. I have yet to play Birthright myself, but between Conquest and Revelations, I personally preferred Conquest for its variety in the maps and objectives as well as the challenge.

Then there is Echoes which is releasing in the west on May 19th. It is a remake of the second Fire Emblem game (Gaiden) Which was on the Famicom and so it does have some noticeable flaws. I have yet to play it, but recently beat the original game. One of the biggest issues with it are the maps since several of them aren't done so well. As a remake, the maps in Echoes are the same as Gaiden so they might not be very good. Except for a few, I personally didn't have much of an issue with Gaiden's maps and still enjoyed it quite a bit overall. It also has several differences from Fire Emblem games, but some mechanics have been implemented into some more recent ones. Like Fates, weapons don't have a durability and it also has a world map you can traverse as well as being able to switch between 2 characters like in Sacred Stones on the GBA. There are also some differences that never appeared in other games like magic attacks using up health and archers having much more range.

So for choosing 3 games... I think Awakening, one from Fates and Echoes could work. But it might be best to start with one at a time to decide if and which games you want. If you go with Awakening and enjoy it then maybe try Fates. If you want a similar experience, perhaps try Birthright and if you want to try something harder then give Conquest a shot. Echoes is quite different, but if you end up enjoying the other games then I'm sure you would enjoy it as well.

I am looking for a tactical rpg with a good story line and well thought out. (Something other than the Fire Emblem games). I found Luminous Arc 1 and 2, Disgaea DS, Final Fantasy Tactics A2, Stella Glow and SMT: Devil Survivor 2 Rerecord Breaker locally. Does any of the games stick out as being better than the others and why? Also is there a tactical game you prefer that is not listed and why do you prefer it?
Thanks for Your Time

@twrex I've played SMT Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker (that's a long name...) and I loved it! It's one of my favourite 3DS games, I definitely recommend it!

Any good PRG games in US?

@annawini I really Like Bravely Default, Shin Megami Tensei IV and the Etrian Odyssey series but I like turn based RPG's. Oh don't forget the huge back log of DS RPG's that are at your finger tips.

Um... Best Harvest Moon for having a child are Magical Melody Gamecube, Tree of Tranquility Wii, Animal Parade Wii. DS version it seems have some downgrades, not really interesting gameplay.
3DS version has not so appealing character design in my opinion...

Hi All,

I'm nearing the end of FE: Echoes and I was wondering if you could recommend similar games. I own most of the Fire Emblem games and have pretty much completed them all including DLC etc. I also love the Bravery series and have finished both games. Is there anything in a similar vein to these games?

I don't care about graphics or the age of the game. Like most of you I assume I have several DS models so can still play older games.; Thank you for your time.

L

i think Advance Wars is similar to FE and Bravely Default, for that series there's dual strike and days of ruin. There's also the Etrian Odyssey series and Persona Q although those are more dungeon crawlers.

Want: Mario Party Top 100, Atlus games, Psychic Spectres for the 3DS. For the Switch Kirby Star Allies, Yoshi and many others.

Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing Gold and Ultra Sun.

@Lucina64 hve you tried Zone of The Enders: The Fist of Mars? The game is really similar to Fire Emblem but with robots and the attack system is a bit more dynamic since when you attack, you have to mark the enemy and you can even get critical hits if you manage to mark the weak point and when you are attacked, you can evade the mark. If you don't like these options, they can be turned off, but personally I think that's what makes it different from FE. There's a lot of text though, but I really liked the game, and the robot designs and animations agre great.

@Pokefanmum82 & @roy130390 Thank you both for your recommendations I have played any of those games and I am not familiar with snyder of them except for Persona - I'm still playing Persona 5 vg game - I will check them out. @roy130390. I don't mind different battle systems at all and I love a good story so text doesn't bother me. Thanks again to you both.

Oh bonus question I'm thinking of downloading Shadow Dragon (FE) it's been years since i've played it do you think it's worth it?

Lucina64

roy130390

@Lucina64 No problem! Well, I don't have experience with that game however, as far as I know, it's a remake of the first FE so it's more basic in terms of gameplay and most FE fans seem to think that it falls flat in comparison to more recent games but still a solid game, at least on my experience.

Some seem to say that it has a good script (barebones story but solid), with minor characters that have little to no dialogue. As far as I know there isn't support between characters, skills or pairups. I also think there's no carrying and dropping others.

I hope that helps!

@roy130390. Wow thank you for going into such detail. I did play the game briefly years ago however I did not own it. I could not recall much of it but from what I have Googled it seems to support what you have said. I was not expecting the game to be up to current gen standards but as it's less than £10 i'll go for it.

Thanks,

L

What do you think of Codename: S.T.E.A.M?
I've seen reviews telling it's good and others telling it's bad.
I watched a few videos and the X-com style appeals to me, but don't care much about the characters...
But still, it's just ¥1500 on Amazon (Japan) so that's very cheap and I'm buying a New 2DS XL this Thursday so I need some games for it (I'm getting Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon for sure)

@maruse [email protected] Codename: S.T.E.A.M.
Seeing as it's cheap, why not buy and try? If it's not your thing, then you've not wasted too much.

I personally love it - despite my initial dislike for the characters and graphics. I wouldn't have bought it at full price, but I bagged it brand new for £10 (roughly ¥1500 as your is). Well worth it.
