Topic: 3DS randomly crashes shortly after startup

So I haven't been on my 3DS in a few months, so I decided to use it for once. When I turned it on, it crashed about 10 seconds after start up, I can't seem to find a fix for this. If any of you have any idea as to why this is happening, please tell me in the replies.

Have you tried removing the SD card from the system?
Also, how does it crash? If it shuts off itself, maybe the battery needs charge. If it's a freeze, then.... I don't know, tbh.

I have tried removing the SD card from the system. By crash I mean I get an error message telling me to hold the power button if you've ever got that. Also, I've now found that my buttons stop working when the system is about to crash, not sure if they aren't working completely.

Ok... so, how long have you NOT used the system? I think the only option now is to send it to Nintendo. Maybe your system's software is corrupted.
Does the message come with a totally black screen(s) in white font?

Yes. The background behind the text (in a white font) is indeed black. I'm not sure if I can get my parents to send the system to Nintendo for repairs though.
I stopped using the system for about a month or two, it worked fine before then. Oh, and I've had the 3DS since xmas 2011

I just remembered I was checking through my friends list the other day and I shut off the system and put it on my desk. It was working fine then.

so I looked into my issue a bit more and I found that when I close the 3DS when its on the screen goes black and doesn't come back on and the crashes usually happen when I use any of the buttons on the system.

I think its just a case of bad OS. Nintendo will be the one to fix this.

Try depleting the battery fully (or take out the battery for a full minute) and then turn it back on. Also update your OS as soon as possible.

Good news!
After leaving the 3DS on my desk for another night, it finally works again. I am now updating the OS and my games. If any of you have any idea as to why my 3DS wasn't working properly yesterday, please tell me.
