Hear me out.
Peoples reward, so to speak, , you're going to get twenty old games for free, some of which are very old and have already been milked to death on other downloadable platforms This is supposed to make up for it. They are hugely overpriced as it is consdiering you can just just google Super mario bros nes and be playing it within seconds.
So 5 months after launch price has been dropped, Nintendo must be desperate and with sales of just 700,000 in last 3 months worldwide.
Wow
A couple of days ago I was considering trading in the 3ds, I have never traded so much as an old game before but now after this reward system and literally no great 3rd party supports I'm out.

  • Yoshi's Island
  • Mario Kart: Super Circuit
  • Metroid Fusion
  • Mario vs. Donkey Kong
  • WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$

Yep, they've been milked to death before.
also, it would probably cost the same amount to buy all 20 games individually

There is no pleasing some people, how have GBA games been "milked to death on other downloadable platforms"? I was happy to pay what i did for my 3DS and i still am you must of had a gun to your back when you went in the shop?!

Third party support could be better but no great third party support? What about these?

  • Tales of the abyss
  • Resident evil: revelations
  • Metal gear solid: snake eater 3D
  • Shin megami tensei: devil survivor overclocked
    • Cave story 3D
  • Kingdom hearts: dream drop distance
  • Nano assault
  • Rodea the sky soldier

Also, as Aviator said the GBA games haven't even been ported once apart from Yoshi's island as that is a port.

Well they could have done nothing at all. In fact, I'm surprised they did anything at all. Yeah, I dunno if I'm happy I could have had it $80 cheaper if I waited, but at least it's something.

I don't know what some people have expected out of this system, but we all knew what was on the horizon, we all knew what the launch titles were, and we all knew what the price of the 3DS was when we bought it at launch. Yes, the games have been at a very slow trickle so far but what was the expectation here? That every single game ever made or that ever will be made would be available directly at launch and that the 3DS would be this magical supercomputer of infinte fun? Please...

When I close my eyes, I see pixilated blood.

I'm nt jumping for joy that my 3DS cost me £27 more than it will after the price drop, or maybe slightly more, but, at least Nintendo are trying to help us out. I know that many will be disapointed, as I slightly am, but then you have to think Nintendo could have left us with nothing. 20 games isn't bad, and although they may have been 'Milked To Death' as you put it, at least we are not getting some complete crap and are getting decent games from well-known franchises. As for trading in the 3DS, I also think that is a bad idea. If you think about September's Star Fox, then Super Mario and Mario Kart 7 in November and December as well as Kid Icarus some time then, Luigi's Mansion 2 in 2012 and Mario & Sonic at The 2012 Olympic's coming in February. You might want to pick up Kingdom Hearts:Dream Drop Distance, and Resident Evil Revelations also coming in 2012. There's MGS: Snake Eater to come in 2012 too. My point is, although this may be a blow, you have to think about what the future is for the 3DS, and what you would be missing out on if you did decide to trade your 3DS in.

its a great compensation, i would have bought most of the mentioned titles anyway, making it largely above the price drop.

just hope the hidden titles arent crap !

I warned you all! lol I warned people about being early adopters for Nintendo systems! None of you listened to me! You all thought I was crazy! Hhheeeheheahahahmwaaaaa!

Anyways, did you really expect anything else? The sales for the system were pathetic from Nintendo's point of view. They had to do something. This is what you get for buying a system early when it has a whole lot of doubt cast around it.

And 20 free games may seem crap because it's all old games, but at least their all GOOD old games, not like urban champion or something.

I agree they are 20 games that arent woeful at all but still, my point is people bought the 3ds for the 3d experience, you buy it at launch, price down, heres 20 old games. wheres 3d experience?
And for people listin games, cave story 3d is free online, I havent heard of moast of the others MGS has a HD collection and resi rev has had dissapointing previews and star fox is a port.
And whilst Mario Kart and like looks great, its all first party.
3rd party is ducking out, Assas Creed, Saints Row and Mega Man and I cant blame them nor anyone wanting to sell

I've thoroughly enjoyed mine..in fact, I play my DS games on it instead of my DSiXL now...been happy with the purchase and now I'll get some classic games that I wouldn't have played otherwise. The price drop should make some others happy and it will make things a bit more interesting for the Vita (which I plan on getting when released as well

I'm sure you'll see more AR stuff, well, maybe if Nintendo isn't dumb, which it can be.

Think of it this way.
The OFFICIAL release date for the 3DS is August 12.
People who preordered the system got a "collectors edition" that came with early access and 20 classic games. For $80 more at $250.

Also Cave Story 3D isn't free, the 2D version is.
And I agree. The software line up is still weak. Incredibly weak. There's only one game that even interests me, and that's Mario 3D Land. I don't care for Mario Kart cause I'm scared it'll be the rubber banding garbage that Mario Wii was.

Thus the fun of being an early adopter.
BUT if you think of it this way.
If sales for the system suddenly go through the roof this holiday, third parties will start giving the system more attention. Which means more 3D games.

People who bought the 3DS early should have known what they were in for. I saw a price drop coming from a mile away (Maybe not this big of a price cut but still). I knew damn well that I was paying s premium price and that it would soon likely be cheaper but I bought it anyway not expecting Nintendo to hand out jack to me for being an early adopter. Now with these 20 free games announced, I'm very pleased that Nintendo decided to go the extra mile. Nintendo doesn't owe you anything. They can drop the price to whatever they want whenever they want and are not obligated to give you anything special because of it. Just be happy they're doing anything at all for us early adopters. I'm extremely psyched about the 10 GBA games. I'm happy for NES ones too but those are more like gravy IMO.

I think that's quite good, for once we get rewarded for buying the system early. Also the known 10 games seem quite awesome, it even includes Metroid Fusion! Sure, the other 10 might be awful, but they could still be awesome. And if you think about it, we still get 21 games (including Excitebike 3D).

The lower price might be complete BS, especially after only a few months but getting 10 NES games and 10 GBA games thrown in for buying the system early?! That is one epic deal!!

ACTUALLY bboy, Nintendo does owe people stuff. Not because of the price drop but because they want you to remain brand loyal, and you don't do that by selling you something for $250 and then 4 months later dropping it to $170 and giving you nothing. It would piss people off.
20 games is quite generous, though still old games. It makes people not be angry, well most of them.

Brand loyalty is REALLY REALLY important. I mean they probably lost a lot of brand loyalty with their home consoles after the Wii, especially with NA users with the joke that's called Nintendo of America.
Which makes me surprised this happened.
My guess is the 20 free games is a command from Nintendo of Japan, cause I know Nintendo of America wouldn't give users squat if they had the choice.

Well, I'm not gonna post another massive long load of crap like I did above, but this is how I feel. Bad bout paying about £40 more. Good for 20 free games. All in all this is ok. Before this happened my view of the 3DS was ok. Now my view of the 3DS is ok. The good has evened out the bad in my opinion.

I agree that it will certainly keep people happy which is a good thing for sure. I'm just saying that they very well could have done nothing at all but instead they put together this generous offer and people STILL complain. Nobody forced any of us to buy a 3DS early. Anyone with a 3DS right now saw the price tag and decided it was worth a purchase to them. I just don't see how people can whine about such a nice gesture. Also, NES games are pretty old sure but those GBA games are what really makes this deal sweet. None of those games have been released on a download platform before and so far look like an extremely solid bunch of games. I wouldn't be surprised if the value of these 20 free games well exceeds the 80 dollars more we spent on 3DS.

Sorry, my view of the 3DS is not ok. I LIKE my 3DS. And I still LIKE it. But I don't love it just yet, maybe later when there are better games available.

I was happy to pay top whack for my 3DS in the first place - I knew exactly what was coming. I knew there wouldn't be much in the first few months. This just makes me even happier. I'd have been indifferent if Nintendo had done nothing today because a price drop was fairly inevitable.

'Command' makes it feel very forced, as though Iwata's specifically said to the higher-ups at NOA "you WILL do this". No doubt this is, quite simply, a decision made by Nintendo Company Ltd. saying "Nintendo is going to do this", by which they mean NCL, NOE, NOA, NA, and so on, so forth. Almost like a default, if you will, where NCL makes a decision on behalf of every division. And I'm fairly happy for them to do that in this case.
