Anyone else getting frusterated by the 3DS' inability to save dsi games to the memory card? Obviously virtual console and 3dsware is not the problem. I have very limited memory for dsi games remaining and I don't want to have to delete games. Nintendo! We're trying to hand over our money to you but our systems won't allow it. If you released more 3dsware games, perhaps it would help, but we really need a patch to fix this programming problem or compatibility issue. Please get your programmers on this!!!

You can save them to the SD card, but you just can't play them from there and I believe your save data gets lost or something.
So yes, it is a problem and it'd be great if they updated it so that DSiWare games would load from the SD card, much like the change they made to the Wii.

I have no more room for DSiWare games, so I've stopped downloading them... Nintendo's loss I guess if they don't want to change this because there's a few more out there that I've considered getting but I'm avoiding due to there being no space for them.

Your data is not lost.

Just don't forget to ALWAYS copy it to the SD card before deleting it from the 3DS, I don't get where people got all this "you lose your saves" thing, it was the same for the DSi.

Bloop.

Oh, fair enough.
I've never tried it myself so I can only go from what I've heard.
I take that back then, sorry.

It's still silly. You should be able to use your memory for whatever games you want and not have to continually copy and delete. It's a rather silly process one has to engage in. I would like to know (hopefully someone here knows) why did nintendo decide to do this, or what aspect of coding makes it difficult for the sd card to be fully integrated into the system?

Having roughly 80 games from DSiWare, I used to be with you guys on allowing SD card streaming for DSiWare, but not anymore. I barely play the DSiWare that's on my System Memory atm, let alone dig out ones on my SD card to play them some more, so I find it nice that I don't have the 60-65 games not on my System Memory cluttering up my Home Menu. Also, because I don't play many of my DSiWare titles often, it's nice to know I still retain the save files when they're on my SD card, unlike my eShop purchases, where I have to choose between eyesore/reminder of my laziness and keeping my save files. I would be really grateful if Nintendo implemented some system where we could save our save data but remove the actual games from our Home Menus/SD cards. That's just my opinion, though.

Exactly.

There's not even close to enough good games on the service for you to ever fill up a 2GB SD card anyways ...

Im onto a 4GB SD card now, but as far as DSiware is concerned I have them all stored on my SD cards with a couple of essentials stored on the device and then a random selection that I replace a couple every so often. But I always save them back so I dont lose what I have saved. But I really would like some kind of way of running the games directly from the card itself.

I think a good idea would be a DSiWare folder of some sort, drag them into the folder to store them (save them to the SD Card) leaving space for the System Memory, open the folder and remove any of the games you wish to play on to the HOME Menu and job done, rather than the whole faffing around with Settings - Data Management - DSiWare - Copy - Exit - Play game(s).

Open folder - Take out games you wish to play - Play game(s).

i like that ideal xDemon720x.... but nintendo should have like one folder for each category of games on the 3ds home menu.and have all of it get save to the sd card... i mean i folder for dsi ware games,a folder for gb games,3d games, etc.u could have so much more room on the home menu...

Add me on Wii U, JLSniper. I drew my avatar on the best game system ever the 3ds...3ds friend code 4768-7474-1189.. oh add me please and u can see my fun pictures i draw on my 3ds :)

There's enough memory to have 10 or so DSiWare games sitting happily on the 3DS.

That, plus the Virtual Console games, the eShop stuff (once it starts coming), and the retail game you can have inserted into the 3DS. How many more games do you need immediate access to? I know I can only juggle 4-5 games at a time.

Chris720

@WaltzElf @YellowChocobo I agree with you, you only need a handful of games at any one time, not like your going to be able to play 10-20 games during a bus ride or something. One usually suffices if you want a quick game here and there. But it would be just easier if you could store your games somewhere a little easier rather than faffing around with settings all the time.

Well we could have Nintendo just do what they did on the Wii. What I'm referring to is the SD card update where you could play your games off of the SD card (without transferring) and it was stored in its own little folder of sorts to keep the menu screen organized and what not. Because the Wii originally was like how the 3DS is to DSiWare games, so in the future, if you suggest it to Nintendo, the same could happen in this situation.

Playing directly from the SD card should have been an option from the beginning. I agree that most people are probably only actively playing a few games at a time, but it's pretty ridiculous. It's pretty basic functionality.

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.

LzWinky

Does anyone actually play more than 8 DSiware games at once or are we preaching to the choir?

@Birdman13 So you want something where a game is temporarily "streamed" to your system, but when you're done nothing remains except for the save data? I'm not sure we're at a point where we can actually do that "well" yet, especially considering current download speeds and bandwidth caps.

He wasn't, but even if he was talking about what you said up there. It can be done well. OnLive says hello.

plus, i think that if you go into your eshop settings, there is a section where you can download things you already bought. the same place where you had to download the ambassador games. i can see every purchase i did, and they remain re-downloadable.
