Hey everybody, I have a little problem with my 3DS and was hoping somebody would be able to help. I have an original model and so it is already pretty old and wearing down, but last week it got a little bit of water spilled on it. Everything is still there and generally works fine, but it sometimes just turns off now. It has only happened a couple of times while playing, and it seems to happen when you push the back in or something, but I will often go to pick it up when I haven't been playing and find that it is off. A few times it has even reset the clock to midnight on January 1, 2011, which really screws up some of the games. And just now, it shut off while I was playing, and when I turned it back on, it said the battery was about dead even though it should have been almost fully charged. Do you think the battery could be the issue and a new one would solve the problems? And where would be the best place to get one and how much do they cost? I really don't want to buy a whole new system now with NX news just around the corner. Thanks.

It could be the battery, but it could also be that there is still water inside the case, casuing a problem. Take the back off of your 3DS and put the whole thing into a bag of dry rice, seal it in and put it somwhere warm for a day or two. The rice will absorb any water residue. Retry your 3DS. If it still fails, replacing the battery might be worth a try..

I did put it in rice, but I never took the back off, so I guess the rice probably didn't do a lot. I guess I'll try it again. I did see that a new battery is only $14.99 on nintendo.com, so it is probably worth a try. I thought they would be more than that.

I wouldn't worry much about the NX coming. Nintendo hasn't made any official announcements about it. What we know is all leaks. It'll likely be shown off at an E3 and then several months, if not a year, before it hits store shelves. It would be bad for them to say "Hey, we have a new system. Here." without showing it off and letting hype build up. We'd also need to give 3rd party developers time to make games too.
