Topic: 3DS Idea: New more frequent uses for Notification/Spotpass

As an avid downloader of 3DS VC games and 3DSWare (and free ambassador games) I think it would be a cool idea if we had the ability to turn on a notification of when new games were available in the e-shop, at any time. Sometimes it seems like they come at different times (here in the U.S. on Thursdays.) Sometimes I'll check a couple of times before I actually see them, and it would be nice to know when/if they were actually there. What do the rest of you guys think? Seems like the notification feature isn't used very much and it would be cool for us to be able to adjust the settings so we could actually be notified of something going on with our 3DS or the e-shop. Just an idea...

They update at the same time every week i believe, Nintendo Europe had a message in the eshop like a week or two ago confirming that new releases go out at 2pm GMT on thursdays Probaly best to memorise the timing for your region!

They've also sent out Spotpass notifications for new 3DS download software, including Pyramids, Freakyforms, Zen Pinball + Pushmo/Pullblox!

Nintendo have no idea how to use their Notifications effectively. They rarely send any out - and when they do they are late; so late that anyone interested in what the notification was talking about would have looked into it already.

True, but if Nintendo truly wanted to increase their online sales, they would want to remind us at every possible turn. Sometimes I even forget it's download day! This would be a good way for them to notify us if we wanted to be notified, and they would probably only increase their profits. So why not?

For the past two or three weeks I've had SpotPass notifications on Thursday afternoons for new releases. Granted, they were primarily for new Nintendo 3DS Download Software (Zen Pinball 3D, Freakyforms and Pullblox), but still. I agree that the news items that go live in Nintendo eShop would do well to be sent to Notifications too.

I would definitely like to see a more effective use of the notifications.

I got one a while back for Pushmo but I didn't get one for Freakyforms. Which I thought was a little sad given they're both Nintendo ips.

I think the user should be able to tweak the settings (almost like subscribing to an e-mail newsletter you like) so if you don't like to be notified of anything you can turn it off, turn it on for certain events, etc. It would be nice to even include the notification light along with an alarm clock setting for the 3DS. Why not use it more than three times a year? LOL. It's definitely an underused feature!

I guess you guys in the U.K. get more than we do over here in the U.S. This lack of use probably has more to do with NoA's leadership team than it does with Nintendo in general and in other countries.

LOL, Nintendo's leadership team is to blame for lack of spotpass notifications. Holy crap, if you want to buy an eshop game, go to the eshop, you don't need a blue light to go on in order for you to do it. You sure are hating on NoA today.

They don't want to overdo the spotpass because if people find that they are getting too many notifications that they don't necessarily find useful, they'll start ignoring them completely or worse, turn spotpass off.

I disagree here with that last 1. I actually get a bunch of sotpass notes for Pokédex 3D and Nintendo Video, granted I don't always watch the new videos because really, they don't always feel all that interesting. This would be way different in the case of eShop and much more helpful to be notified when new content is there. Why would anyone ignore those notifications? We seem to only get new content every Tuesday (or Thurday, I forget which) anyway, so wouldn't it be rather impossible to get cluttered full of eShop notes?
