You'd pretty much have to hold down the power button for a while for it to force power off, usually it pops up a screen telling you that sleep mode is better than power off, so I don't think that's it.
It probably just crashed. Nothing really to worry about, all complicated computer systems these days have random bugs in them that only show up every now and then. I'd forget about it.

since this is a help thread,does anyone else experience a wobbly top 3ds screen?when i have the 2 screens touching each other,i can press the top screen and it moves in
Here's your problem: It is impossible to have the 2 screens touching each other and be able to touch the top screen, because it's closed. So either you have extremely thin fingers, or I'm missing something.

wat i mean is to have your 3ds closed and to push in the top screen(the one with the cameras on it)on its front side(the side facing the headphone inserter)
