Hi all, ive only done a handful of posts on this board so sorry if this topic has already been covered somewhere before, im seriously considering buying a 3ds at the end of the month, with mario kart and mario 3ds around the corner i really want one however i keep getting put off by people who i know saying playing 3ds makes them feel sick or they get headaches, is this the general case amongst users? sure i know you can turn down the 3d function but then i wouldnt be getting the full gaming experirence, playing fast paced FPS games like COD etc do make me feel sick after a lenghly play. thoughts?

It's different for everybody. Most people are fine with the 3D but some get headaches easily from it. The best thing for you to do would be to find a demo somewhere like Best Buy or Gamestop and test it out for yourself.

90% of the time when I use it I have no problems at all. However there are a few occasions when I'm basically looking at the screen cross-eyed and that makes your eyes hurt pretty quickly, which usually only happens when I feel tired.

You do realize the 3D isn't required and isn't necessary to enjoy any of the games, so don't let that set you off it. As it is, you are a weak person internally if a FPS game makes you feel sick so odds are something this more intense on the eyes would probably have you feeling worse even faster.

Even with the recent SM3DL? I've heard the 3D stuffs are used to good effect in that game.

My cousin has a hard time with 3D anything. But his older brother doesn't. Just depends on the individual. I remember the first time I played my 3DS, I started to "see" things, like text popping outward when I was on the computer. That was my issue, and some experienced similar here on NL. Now, I'm used to 3D and have adjusted.

You don't need to use 3D. And some games, such as Cubic Ninja don't really need it because the game doesn't do a good job with it, unlike Star Fox and SM3DL, which I heard does a phenomenal job with it.

You should try out demo stations or ask a friend to let you play their 3DS for a bit to see if you have issues with 3D.

Do you have problems watching 3D movies in theaters or in general?

I get migraines from 3D effects, I cant even go watch movies at the theater in 3D so when I play 3DS games like Star Fox 64 3D I keep the 3D off and it doesnt effect the enjoyment of the game at least for me.

"necessary for enjoyment" is what he was saying, and it just might be to fully enjoy this game.

You'll definitely want 3D on to fully enjoy SM3DL.

I don't get any sickness or migraines from using the 3D effect. ( Which is awesome, cause it's really cool. )

But I do get tired in my eyes much faster than usual and usually have to take a break more often. Say I can play for 8h in a row when gaming on a console before getting tired, then I'll most likely only be able to play 4h on the 3DS with 3D on.

Especially since it's built on using 3D effects (just as the upcoming Zelda 3DS game will too).

I can only speak for myself and I've never had any problems using the 3DS in 3D mode, I've had marathon gaming sessions on my regular TV until my eyes hurt, but that's just any screen for you.

3D hasn't been needed for me to fully enjoy SM3DL. I turn the 3D on in spots where it looks like it might look awesome, but it doesn't really look much different. I can't see 3D very well and it makes me sick. The game looks 3D enough for me without the 3D on.

Ive only ever watched one 3d movie which was ice age 3d, cant say i had an issue with 3d there, although i did take a look at a new 3d mobile (cell) phone an LG one running a demo in 3d and i have to say it did my eyes in a little bit.

I would say get one. They are pretty awesome!

and I have found myself getting headaches, though that's from playing the game longer than I should to begin with XD And even regular games give me headaches from every now and again... but that is why they invented Headache medicine

Just so you know I never have headaches from the 3D. The only time it's ever a problem is when I'm really tired and I play for a few minutes - at which point the 3D hurts my eyes, but its always fine otherwise - I shouldnt be playing games even without 3D when I get that tired

The first sign of trouble I had at all was when I first got Starfox. My first time to play it was late at night in the dark. I started to feel nauseous a little like I might feel from motion sickness. My guess is it was a combination of all of the above, and probably mostly the fact that Starfox is a faster paced game.
