I think you're missing my point. I'm not talking about whether I will buy one or not, or my personal feelings about the console at all.

And how exactly does that lead to an interesting discussion, hmmm? I see both sides here making some good points. If it truly bores you, there are numerous other threads to discuss things. No one's really hurling around insults here.
@Scypher: how is this an 'interesting discussion'? it's more of a reaction thread/whinging session if you ask me... seriously, there's nothing any of us can do about it if Nintendo chooses to implement region-locking. we just have to live with their decision, or, as Aviator (kinda) said, put our money elsewhere.

There's nothing any of us can do about politics either, that doesn't stop people talking about it. Or the quality of music, social trends, whether a video game is good or not.
Discussion is discussion. No one is under the illusion we can reverse Nintendo's decision, but we can certainly talk about whether it's a good idea or not.
I guess we have different ideas of interesting. xD I meant Waltz and Oregano specifically. There's nothing we can do about a lot of gaming-related things but I find it interesting to have them discussed anyhow. I constantly enjoy Waltz' posts about these kinds of things.
@Waltz: actually, there's a lot that can be done regarding politics (though i guess that depends on what country you live in), social trends, and music. the only thing that can be done with games, though, is putting our money where our mouths are.

Just because Sony didn't correct the mistake doesn't mean it's not a mistake, It's also pretty dubious what you're suggesting.
Nintendo requires ratings for legal reasons, not because it's law but specifically to avoid law suits and Sony and Microsoft both have similar policies about software ratings. It's also got to be noted that Apple does do their own software rating and does restrict or remove offending content and more importantly you need to be at least 13 to purchase from the itunes store and require parental consent if you're under 18.(That affects publishers much more than consumers anyway)
Sony doesn't want people redistributing their games, they put in their EULA when they realised just how stupid that was. Just because it can happen doesn't mean Sony endorses it.
Anyway I got to go, got work in the morning. I'm not really sure if this discussion will go anywhere though(don't mean that offensively!) I personally think it's an unreasonable expectation and you don't. That's just a matter of opinion. Anyway, ciao!

I like these kinds of discussions on this forum. For the most part the people in here have really interesting views on an industry I find very interesting, as a business. Even if I don't agree with them personally, it's great food for thought!

Yup, all good (see above). Shall have to think about this more.

wat
I meant on this forum (or any other online forum, for that matter).
Of course we could join a political group, get involved in rallies and so on and so forth.
I don't want to get involved in a fight, but since when did TBD decide the only discussions we can have on this forum is if we can change Nintendo's entire business plan? It was a perfectly civil discussion, despite a difference in opinions :-/
3DS is still amazing despite these setbacks
I agree. As I said way back in the start. I'm just going to have to buy two now.

i fail to see where i locked this thread? all i was trying to do was defend what Aviator had said, which i thought was a reasonable statement, as he'd been jumped on for it.

I agree with WaltzElf and Scypher. Personally, I enjoy just reading the comments and words of wisdom from WaltzElf, Oregano, Tasuki, Machu and PunnyGuy. Region Locking doesn't matter to me as I don't order games from overseas anyway. Actually, I'm more in favor of region locking as I think that it helps to impose a generally unique experience for each county of the world along with ensuring that one country has a different game exposure as opposed to that of another.

It's sad enough that the Wii is region locked (especially for us European Virtual Console fans). But why do we need region locks on handheld devices nowadays, too? When will Nintendo ever become customer-friendly? This is an absolute disappointment!
True about the VC part. I haven't been bothered with region locked games but I see the disappointment it brings.
Ninty shouldn't play with our consumer rights....limiting the product is somewhat not allowed from a few things I have read up. It's like if your Hoover doesn't take away all the dust from your carpet or your car can't go beyond 50MPH.
