More precisely, in 5 months, and only in Japan.

Yokai Watch 2 (July 7)
Super Smash Bros. (September 13)
Monster Hunter 4G (October 11)
Pokemon ORAS (November 21)

All four of these have passed 2 million shipments in Japan, making the 3DS the first gaming platform in history to accomplish this in that amount of time. It also brings the total of multi-million sellers on 3DS to 10, passing the Wii's lifetime total of 8.

Also to keep in mind: Yokai Watch 2.5 releases next week and pre-orders are through the roof. It's also in holiday season and coinciding with a movie release. It is pretty much guaranteed to be the 3DS's 5th multi-million seller in the second half of 2014.

But don't forget that this is a bad thing.

I need to wrap my head in duck tape in order to stop it from exploding from the Yahoo article. Nintendo needs to fail?! Then Sony needs to fail even more than Nintendo by that perversion of logic.

Haha the most contrived statistic I've ever heard.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

What I got from the article you linked was, really, "Nintendo is doomed, only F2P iOS games can save them"

Unless I'm not getting the message, how the heck does Pokémon OR/AS selling phenomenally well mean that the success is "killing" the company?

I mean, seriously? "The end of November period brought just about the worst possible news for Nintendo: The latest Pokemon games sold a dazzling 1.5 million units in Japan during launch week. ...This toxic triumph was precisely what Nintendo did not need. The company requires shock therapy to force its hidebound executives to abandon their preposterous opposition to launching Nintendo’s beloved franchises on iPad."

I am still amazed how long it is taking Level 5 to localize the Yokai Watch games. Those numbers could be higher.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

What piece of junk article you linked there, recent financial results show that Nintendo's decision to keep on upholding their legacy and to not release on smartphone was a wise one. As far I am concerned they should steer clear of smartphone/tablet gaming, those platforms put the passion of gaming into shame.

Sure there is a place for it, sure a lot of people are playing - what I call throw-away - 'games' on there, but it should NEVER mingle with traditional gaming. There are more than a few gems on there between the millions of junk, sure, but the majority are borderline insults which are shy of what the European Union is trying to mark as 'gambling' and 'abusive'. Ha, even Apple has to rename their 'free' button for f2p games under pressure.

Those platforms are a disgrace, Nintendo needs to stay far far away from those.

Nintendo's success is bad because we'll never get the freemium Animal Crossing we've all been dreaming of.

Nah, if they release it in the west at the same time as the anime does it's improves both the show and games postion.

Japan just loves their 3DS, and I'm glad they do. The more of them buy games, the better our chances stand to get some more gems!

That's great to here about 3DS software success. Smash and Pokemon remakes sold gangbusters in the West too. But yeah, Nintendo is still doomed.

As someone who reads Yahoo articles every once in a while, I can confirm that they're all just as dumb as this one. Hold your surprise. The commentors are usually even dumber.

I can only imagine how much erosion consumer trust would endure should any major franchise go to a f2p microtransaction strategy, since it's money-grubbing awfulness that ruins gaming (but I can't hear you over all the money).

Castlevania isn't a Nintendo franchise, Tero. You're killing me here.

Nintendo is doomed because this has created an expectation for Nintendo that they will not be able to achieve. From now on Nintendo will expect to make that much every year and that will cause them to run themselves into the ground lol jk

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

People are just too focused on how insanely lucrative the Wii and DS were for Nintendo from 2006-2010. It kinda skews perception of things when a single generation of hardware and software for Nintendo funds their Scrooge McDuck money pit. Most professional analysts know this though. It's just these wannabes with a blog that go on about how Nintendo should ditch hardware and go mobile freemium as their main business.

Yeah, don't believe everything you read on "Yahoo!" articles (or online period). I love Y! and their search engine, but don't read their articles.

Who are you?
