UK Top 20 04/08/2011
1) Lets Golf 3D
2) 3D Classics Xevious
3) The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
4) Super Mario Land
5) G&W Gallery
6) Kirby's Dream Land
7) Photo Dojo
8) AfterZoom
9) Donkey Kong
10) Mario's Picross
11) Mario vs Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!
12) Plants vs Zombies
13) Paper Plane
14) Music on: Electronic Keyboard
15) Jagged Alliance
16) Tetris Party Live
17) Airport Mania: NSF
18) Faceez: Monsters!
19) Music On: Electric Guitar
20) Adventure in Vegas: Slot Machine

Points of Interest:

  • Two Music On titles enter the top 20 after the "let the music play" shelf was added to the front of the eShop. This shows that this simple type of promotion is effective. This hypothesis is also supported by the jump in popularity of AfterZoom which is also placed on the front page
  • Lets Golf shoots to the top of the charts, knocking Xevious to second place. Above all this tells me that people want 3D experiences from the eShop.
  • The top 10 remains fairly static with 3DS downloads and virtual console titles dominating whilst the 11-20 positions have a lot of movement and is mostly filled with DSiware. This suggests that VC and 3DS downloads have longer popularity and DSiware could be fazed out of the top 20 as more 3DS downloads are made available.

I decided to go with a slightly different format and hopefully generate some discussion. Is that cool?

No problems, so did I. But the shop wasn't updated yet so nothing to worry about .

I take it these are the bestsellers charts? I'm well chuffed to see that (in Europe at least) Digger Dan is in the top review charts.

Let's Golf 3D is totally overrated. What the heck was ign thinking with that 90 score? Let's see, it cost more than the version on iTunes but is stripped of online play and still it gets a better score than Ghost Recon? Please... I regret buying it on the 3DS. They're saying it's on par with Link's awakening for crying out loud.

It's important to note they're the recent bestsellers, not all topsellers. Also DiggerDan is great, I gave it a 5.

16) Photo Dojo
17) Tetris Party Live
18) Plants vs Zombies
19) Paper Plane
20) Avenging Spirit

Points of interest:

  • The Lost Town The Dust and Portable Shrine Wars have both rising into the top half of the charts whilst Go! Go! Kokopolo hasn't entered at all. The former two had trailers which the latter did not. Go! Go! Kokopolo does have a trailer now and is featured on the front page so we'll hopefully see it next week.
  • 3D Classics Xevious has dropped from 2 to 5, this may indicate that it has more limited appeal compared to Zelda(and Lets Golf) and that the majority of its audience has already purchased it.

  • Avenging Spirit is no.6, a high position owing to positive impressions but not chart topping possibly due to lack of brand recognition
  • Both recent GO Series games are in the charts, helped by the fact that the series has it's own shelf.
  • Go! Go! Kokopolo manages to barely make into the top 20 after it was given front page promotion.

Australian recent bestsellers list because I'm bored... I don't know if I'll post this regularly
1) Link's Awakening DX
2) Super Mario Land
3) Let's Golf! 3D
4) Plants vs Zombies
5) Earthworm Jim
6) Kirby's Dream Land
7) DodoGo! Robo
8) Gargoyle's Quest
9) Donkey Kong
10) Zenonia
11) Bomberman Blitz
12) Soul of Darkness
13) Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!
14) Xevious
15) Tetris Party Live
16) 2-in-1 Solitaire
17) Game & Watch Donkey Kong Jr
18) The Lost Town The Dust
19) Rayman
20) G&W Gallery

As far as I can tell all of the games here are in one of the categories on the main page. The Solitaire game is obviously getting a boost from the inclusion of the card game category a while ago and Rayman, DodoGo! Robo and Earthworm Jim are getting noticed because of the platformer category. Interestingly there is only one game starting with R despite the inclusion of that category but maybe it just needs more time for said ridiculous category to take off.

Other than that it's 3D classics, Game and Watch, Zelda and Mario.
