I'm seeing various blogs out there in internet land start to report that Nikkei has apparently announced (here, but I can't read it myself) that NetFront, not Opera, will be behind the web browser for the 3DS. Evidently NetFront is used in some form by the PS3 and others.
It's still just rumor as far as I'm concerned, but it is interesting. Thoughts? I'm quite happy with the Opera company, as they've typically managed to produce the most lightweight browsers on the planet, with intelligent usability features for small devices. If they are going with NetFront instead, here's hoping that it's been overhauled and streamlined to work with the system. Many are already speculating about Flash support etc, but I really just care about a clean, fast browser that lets you look up something while pausing your game, not a replacement for all the other devices in my house that can browse the web.

Maybe, there will be applications made by others like Google or Mozilla, I hope.
also heard a bit speculation about Opera being employed by sony. Theres a possibility that PS3, PSP, etc. Might have more that one browser in the future.
Oh yeah, you might be able to use the current Opera for DSi on it if they allow transfer.
Oh boy, maybe it's because they're moving to Firefox, Chrome, or some other common Browser that won't be a hassle to deal with.
Well Opera is pretty much the premium mobile browser, best in its field. That's why this news is disappointing. There's pretty much nowhere to go but down.

People are forgetting that the 3DS has a touch screen. A much better interface for browsing (As opposed to slowly moving a cursor around with the analog stick). Netfront for Android and Windows Mobile are apparently very good.
Also, Sony uses an outdated version of the browser.

Which sucks since my experience with Opera has already been less than satisfying, to say the least. Maybe Netfront will surprise us, who knows.

I concur, Opera for PC is an dud. Though I hear people saying that it awesome, etc. The Wii and DSi version has a lot of flaws, though the DSi version is more updated.
Opera is slow, but I never really relied on it as an effective browser. I just like the idea of running multiple applications on the 3DS (i.e. looking up things on the web in the middle of playing a game).

Do you mean on PC or over all? I use Chrome on PC but I think Opera is the most efficient browser out there, that's not too important on a PC where you have quite a lot of memory to work with but on a mobile device with lower memory it's the number one priority.
