Do my games I buy from the Nintendo e shop stick with me somehow when I go to buy a new 3ds? im not talking about game data, I know about the file transfer for that. What I don't know is if i'll be able to simply re download the games forever across all 3ds's ( instead of purchasing them again ) and I wanted to know if club Nintendo had anything to do with it. ( As I have not signed up for club Nintendo yet ) I just got my 3ds, I want to purchase mainly online because I plan to travel a lot. Thanks for the help

no you can't... but I heard that there's a small possibility of it happening at one of the updates in the end of the year, but since it's not from a reliable source it's better to not believe...
EDIT: you're new NL right? why don't you say hi to everyone at this thread:

I'm not a very social creature, and I find that insane that they don't have a way of remembering your purchases.. what incentive do I have to buy online then?

I thought that was standard with every company...

I'm guessing you can do SD card back ups of the data or something, like 1 sd card for back up and 1 sd card for the system... I hope at least. But the fact that if I lost the SD card and I lose all my games is very very disappointing.

Nintendo gets -1 for this big time.

Nintendo does things in Nintendo's unique weird way... it's tied to the console but in the bright side it makes your credit card info safer!
if you lose your SD card you can download everything again as long as it's on the same 3DS OR a different 3DS that received the data tranfer from the previous one!

I frequent a lot of places where people get robbed at gun point, I don't plan to take my 3ds with me when i'm out and about but I was going to find comfort in the fact that if god for bid something did happen I can easily retain my games... I don't care about credit card info as all I do is just call my bank if a problem occurs, so the fact that Nintendo expects people to always have their original console handy for file transfer is a bummer... but I thank you for your help.

If you do get your 3DS stolen, and have a club nintendo account, and your serial number to your system, Nintendo can give you a full refund to your new 3DS. I had mine stolen and had over a 400 dollar refund to my new system.

No company allows unlimited downloads on unlimited devices. Sony allows 2 PS3s and 2 Vitas and Apple allows up to 5 devices in total. But for Nintendo it is only one at the moment

The difference between Sony and Nintendo at least as I understand it, is that Sony has a mechanisms that allows you to unlink a device from your account so you can link a new one without actually having the device in your posession, while with Nintendo if you lose the deviice you are screwed
