Hey N-Life crew. So I just bought a blue new 3DS XL against my better judgement for $200 on eBay. I wasn't going to do it until they released a color for adults, but the included Mario Kart game did me in. That and I recently discovered this website Decalgirl.com that has some cool skins for just about anything. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with skins or decals for the 3DS? So far that is the only website I know of that does it. Any info would be appreciated. Are they easy to apply/remove, what is the quality like, etc

Thanks!

I have bought different skins from different companies and the decalgirl ones are excellent. Theirs have more pieces to completely cover the entire system and allow for you to still take the back cover off to change the battery if you need to without having to remove the skin. I like to change up the look of my 3ds XL from time to time so I have removed the skins too. I can say that they stick on really well. You have to take them off slowly as they stick on pretty tight, but since they are vinyl there is no tearing or sticker residue. My favorite kind to get is the matte finish as it won't show fingerprints and personally I just like the look better. The skins are pretty easy to get on, you just need to take your time. Be sure to very carefully remove it from the paper backing so it doesn't get stretched out, that way they will fit perfectly. I pair my skins with a clear plastic case to go over them, the skin prevents the plastic case from scratching the finish of your 3ds and looks really nice. They are about $2.00 on amazon.

You sound a lot like me. I also bought the blue XL with Mario Kart pre-installed, and I was also dissatisfied with the color. I bought a tie-dye skin for mine. I really like the way it looks, but I do worry that when/if I ever do decide to remove it, that it might leave residue behind. The company says it wont, but I don't trust that. I'm also a bit paranoid about the part of the decal that is under the analog stick; I'm worried that eventually the analog stick will wear against it, maybe even scraping the edge of the sticker off so that it clogs up the inner workings of the analog stick. But other than these worries, I'm really satisfied.

It took me about 45 minutes to get all the pieces on there, and there was one small piece (the lower screen's border) that I ended up just throwing away. You probably want to put a screen protector on the top screen before applying the decal, as the decal overlaps the top screen a little bit (or mine did, anyway).

If you look closely, the decal doesn't go all the way to the edges of the parts it's supposed to cover, so you still see bits of the hated blue chrome bordering the decal. But for the most part I think it looks great, and other players have complimented me on it.

I've only had my 3DS for a few months, so I'd really like to hear from someone who's used a decal for a longer period of time, or who's had to remove one.
