Topic: 3DS Black Screen of Death

I'm sure you guys have heard of this by now. The "death" in the name is obviously a take on the Red Ring of Death and Yellow Light of Death on the 360/PS3, but on the 3DS its not a death of the system (so far).

My reason for posting this is that I'm curious if any of you have had this error occur yet, my unit just did it while playing Madden NFL. I was in the fourth inning and up by 14 points to wrap up the game, and head into the Super Bowl, and Bam!

I was able to restart my system (sluggishly) and of course restart my game once again and everything seems fine so far. I'm a bit concerned with this error though. Hopefully it will be quickly fixed by an update (yes, I have updated my system) in the future. If this was to happen, lets say, an hour or two into a RPG in between game-saves, that would really be a game killer if it happened several times.

just completely format your system and then it should be fine, DONT UPDATE after that procedure
i still say those error come from the firmware update 1.01
you just have to choose do u like your 2 min 3D puppy video or do u want to play madden seriously and relaxing ?!

And for the record, the system update doesn't fix it, from what I hear on the other thread. Everyone who had the problem had done the system update just before getting the problem. I haven't done a system update, and I have had no problems.You have it backwards, peterifico.

I got that until I updated the system, but I still get it when I turn off the wireless sometimes during Street Fighter. It was a pain to update the system for me because not only was the update not updating, but I got the black screen of death 106 times when trying to update it and it was a 4 hour process until I finally got it to work. (And now the System Settings is my most played and longest played game on my 3DS. Might as well make it my favorite, too.)

I'm staying far away from the system updates until 1.02 is confirmed to not wreck my 3DS.

Dust in the cartridge slot? It's what is sounds like.

There is an existing thread for this here. The only things we know for sure are:

(a) it can happen on both aqua and black 3DSes, EU or NA, whether you've updated your system or not.
(b) it can happen completely at random — you can be playing a cartridge game (solo or wi-fi multiplayer), messing around with the preloaded apps, whatever.
(c) it can happen regardless of what type of security your network is using — WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc.
(d) not all users have experienced an error yet (and i'm one of them).

Also, formatting your system is not proven to do anything. Stereoman, I'd greatly appreciate it if you'd quit acting as if you've got all the answers, because you don't — you're just as clueless to the cause and/or prevention of all this as the rest of us. Thank you in advance.
